Maybe 462s have stiffer springs?
Yes they are from the 661. The 500i and 572 have softer springs. The 500i definitely needs the spring swapped for the stiffer one off the 661. It’s a little floppy stock. You can put stiffer ones on the 572 as well, but for the shorter bar lengths I run it’s sufficient. The only one I’ve broken on the 572 is the lower rear tank mount twice and it was my fault both times.

Topped this today as a storm blew in. Likely nearly became a lightning rod. Got soaked as I came down.

Don’t like topping but it turned out the tree had a big wound from a limb breaking off right where they wanted it topped to (red circle) so it was a good thing we did it I reckon. F1E7A48C-51BE-4FE3-8E87-4C9DD02B6BD6.jpeg 2760D73A-C30F-43D6-A227-FE2AF1E5AACE.jpeg

Not sure I follow exactly. They didn’t want to lose the shade, but were afraid the top would break off above the wound and come down on the house. The house is to the left of the van, east. The sun and wind come from the west. I told them it might not survive the topping, but I think it will, seems healthy.

Most the tree guys I know won't top a tree. On other arborist forums there have been threads dedicated to answering the question "would you do this if a customer asked you to".

Yeah I have heard that and advised them…but they were determined, it was gonna be me or someone else. And once I saw the wound I figured it was a good thing. Hopefully the tree makes it, it probably saves them a bit of $ on A/C power. If it doesn’t…I know a guy.

most tree guys around here aren’t. I should post some pics of the horrors I see.

Havta remember, he's already had to replace the PTO bearing in his 572
I usually find that the pto bearing is usually the first major thing to wear out in the bottom end of a high hour saw… provided you take care of it. Other than maybe the rings. If saws are abused they will fail earlier. I had to rebuild the bottom end with new bearings in this 066 last winter for example. It was a fairly low hour saw. Probably had something done to it that caused the bearings to fail as early as they did. I upgraded the flywheel side to a nachi and used a 390xp bearing for the pto side.
