Those thick base non decomp cylinders are a gem for such a build. Here’s my decomp gem, good stock numbers too.

Ive actually just brought another early 66, metal tag and flywheel, but with the decomp. Its been seized unfortunately so will have to see if the cylinder cleans up.

And I also realized that due to the original KS cylinder being a thin base that the M6 screws are too short and I'll need some longer ones (as on the MS660).

I actually got lucky buying. I thought it was a 660 Stihl top end until I opened the box. An ms650 ks jug i have has crap numbers 96/126/77

If you took those transfers up to 120 or even 119 you'd have good runner, even without machine work!

I know! Can't remember what the squish was now. Won't know until whenever I get around to building it, need a couple NOS parts first.

Well, I got up at 4.30 this morning to get a little bit more done. I got the longer cylinder bolts yesterday and here I am ready with everything clean ready to dry fit.

And as expected the case needed relieving a little here:

Before mounting the oil pump make sure this little rubber seal on the output side is in place:

Oil pump, chain adjuster and chainbrake assembly all in place, everything greased with Stihl grease

And the original cover screwed in place

Two thoughts. (1) For a guy that has never done a build thread -- you, sir are knocking it out of the park. (2) Maybe its OCD, but go ahead and spring for the new "break area covers". This saw deserves it. If the paint is as durable as it is nice -- it is a job well done.

Thanks for the complement sir. I'll certainly see if its available. Its different to the later MS660 version (which has an extra screw)
