Got a MS 391 on my bench, not something I've worked on before. Guy wants a muffler mod, but I figure no can do w/o removing the carb limiters.

Looks like a nightmare in there, anyone know an easy way to remove the carb limiters on these?

Thanks.

Are they different that then say the limiters on the 290,310 and 390s?

Picked up this Honda today XR650LView attachment 133062
Nice bike! My dad and brother both have them, really nice on the street, my brother has a ktm 525 as well, to all of our surprise in a drag race the were dead Even, the 650l doesn’t feel crazy fast, but there torque dose it pretty well, and they mod well!! On a side note I have street legal cr250 and I raced my bro on his Harley duce with high compression and cams, we raced from 25-60 and the cr took it, by two bike lengths!

In the US you may have the white Walbro caps with metal insert or the red Walbro ones without. But as I see, I think you have the white ones. There is also the normal puller 5910 890 4502 for Walbro caps needed. Pry the metal washer out of the cap, breaking the plastic. Use a pick to break out most of it and retune.

The problem is there is a lot of plastic nonsense covering the carb, that seems to be connected to some complicated linkage for the carb and separately for the choke. I'm just not looking to spend all week doing this, not sure if I can pull the limiters from a distance.

Sounds like you are saying the limiters are similar to the MS 460???

Same basic design as the 362 version 1 just with a plastic case

Never ripped a 362 down either. I prefer the simpler saws … 044/440, 046/460/461, 066/660.

The 460/461 seem to be the primary saw for most of the tree guys around here, and they are what I work on most … by far.

You would find them simple after breaking a few down. 261/362 are a relatively simple design. No carb box in the way.
