Well, I only have my friend Adam @Kiwioilboiler to blame....he egged me on.
I also scored a 353 a few days ago, and although Adam has a taste in Bananas (nothing wrong with that of course) I've opted for something a little meatier....my friend Kevin @huskihl has offered to stuff some sausages in a NIB NE 346xp cylinder kit along with a 357 carby and intake and send it out with my 500i and 266se he has currently in the works. So... I'll end up with three saws with some good Michigan stuffing....

I'm glad you two picked up those saws, I was tempted but I have a 353 and 346 top end I need to get around to doing after I finish my 290, 025, 385, 288, 298............

I snagged this at a local antique auction tonight. I’ve got a deck that will work on it.

buddy of mine dug this out of some guys junk pile and hooked me up. note the stickers on the fuel tank...the crank is useable i hope, but its been sitting open for a while. who tears apart a nearly new 288 for one little score mark on the piston and just throws it in a scrap pile?

So that box of bits is an 03 357XP. Was a running saw when purchased but needed a chainbrake case mount welded. I'm lucky to know New Zealand's equivalent to S.Carr so she's good to go now. No pics, welder is shy of publicity.
I'll chuck a Meteor at it in a minimal squish build and molest the muffler and probably knock the dags off the cylinder.........i drilled and tapped the stoopid auto decomp port M5 and RTV'd a M5x8 cap screw in and clipped the plastic clamp of death away and used a 385'er instead.
Ok, I'm all but finished....out of Joes deflectors for a week or so ;)....180psi pre-start should do it! $200USD well spent, before piston and dogs and bar and chain and stickers and deflector and starter screws and 385 clamp and........
Thanks heaps for the help on this one @markds2 .

Thanks for the kind words Adam, I am in no means a professional but I do enjoy the challenge of welding dirty old chainsaw magnesium!
