Kind of new to rebuilding these carbs. Why is this silver piece on the needle side dented and should it be replaced? Looks like theres a new one in the kit. And if so how do i remove it?

I think your talking about the Welsh plug.

you could watch many YouTube vids to help you out.. l'm just being lazy in typing o_O that’s why I’m pointing to YouTube to explain it.

sometimes you can skip the Welsh plug changing when you rebuild a carb.. but sometimes you can’t … it really depends on your problems & diagnostic experience as to if you can skip it. Some guys go the ultrasonic bath cleaning method first…

As @mark_kershner says it’s the way to enlarge (expand) the circumference and for it to fit tight
In the old days before ethanol, nail varnish was also used to help seal it. Not sure what’s used now.

anyhow it could be dented from being fitted in the manufacturers factory .
I could say lots, but the real deal is how did it run before, was it just a tired diaphragm, maybe a clogged jet ?

you could change everything else, and the carb works fine. Or it may not
You could mess around with the Welsh plug and have sealing problems afterwards.
It really comes down to diagnosis.. I’ve only changed one Welsh plug. Not that I’ve done many carb rebuilds.. to me it’s a last resort after a ultrasonic bath and it still plays up . Then you wished you'd just jumped straight in.

btw, some places (dealers) will just fit a new carb, for Insurance/guarantee purposes that it will fix a carburettor problem. And they will make money & not lose it later when you bring it back.

Honestly i dont know how it ran. It was in a 2095 that had been under the bench for a few years. Never heard the saw run and i finally got around to freshen it up. New seals, new bearings, new piston so i figure id throw a carb kit in it too. I ended up replacing the welsh plug. Maybe i shouldnt have. Were gonna find out tomorrow when the rest of the parts show up.

Your probably find it will be fine. It’s just to cover up the L fuel passage after the manufacture.
It’s only a problem if the wp leaks or when fuel is allowed evaporate and varnish builds & blocks the passage.

that’s why I said peeps use a ultrasonic bath as it helps dislodge and break it up

I change welsh plugs every time I kit a carb. You can push a small right angle pick right in one and pop it out with ease. After I seat them I seal the edges with clear nail polish. I take em out before the ultrasonic cleaner.
