Hi guys Im in need of a coil for one of my main saws Makita 7900 oem or if you have a 272 I will be happy to make it work.
Had the wire brake off yesterday. It was barely hanging on the insulation was cracked through had it liguid taped. I was hard on it taking the plug out before and it finally gave in.
As asked by the gentlemen above, replace the plug, keep the coil?!
If the wire is not detachable:
- cut it while leaving enough on the coil
- push a heat shrink hose of correct size over the wire
- connect the new wire/lead by twisting a thin enough wood screw in it, half way
- cut of the screws head
- twist the screws end into the coil side wire
- pull the heat shrink hose over the connection spot and heat it up
You can go double or triple on the shrink hose to make the connection more durable.
There are also heat shrink hoses that are laced with glue on the inside.
Make sure You figure out the total wire length and where to place the connection/fix before You cut off the original lead.
Replacement ignition wires and heat shrink leads can be had fairly affordably on eBay.
You might also be able to source these at a local shop of Your choice.
The shrink hoses can be had at various shrink ratios, 2:1 without glue on the inside is the most affordable.

I know this might sound stupid, but I used this method as a temporary quick fix that held up much longer than expected, granted not on a chainsaw though.
