Interesting, according to the lists I have the "DE" models don't have a chain brake, but maybe there have been different configurations for different markets.
The chain brake is in the side cover. Am I right in thinking these are based off the 100S?
The chain brake of the 100S is different. This one is like PS-340, PS-400 et al.

This may be a really dumb question / idea but,

Has anyone run a 325 setup on one of these small 340/341 type saws? It have found a cheap 13" GB bar in this mount but I'm not sure it's going to pull it. Runs the 3/8LP really well but a 325 7 will probably be too much I'm guessing

I've never tried it on one under 35cc, but often saws between 35-40 cc had 3/8 LP and .325 versions, and it worked pretty well for both.

Probably your best chance of being happy with the cutting speed would be to use the .325 LP, which is what Oregon promotes for this size of saws. Of course, the edge retention might not necessarily be very good.

But you're probably only concerned with the .325 standard. If that guide bar is .050, then probably Stihl's Pro chains are a good choice to test (video? 😅).

I wouldn't worry about the fact that the .325 sprocket is 7T. That's only about 3% difference (speed/force) between it and a 6T 3/8 LP (7*.325 / 6*.367).

It seems that this saw is not simply a version of the DE3435 with a 30 cm guide bar, as is often the case in such designations. It is not listed in the manual for the DE3435/DE4040. Nor does it appear on the parts list for these models.
It appears to have been an independent model from the DE3435/4040 (with brake) and can only be found references to it on Japanese and Australian websites. Is there perhaps a manual or parts list somewhere that includes the DE3430?

I might try it but I'm not really sure what to do with this thing. It feels like so much more saw than a ms170/180 when using it

Well, maybe because it is not a clamshell design? Of course, formally the peak parameters usually quoted by manufacturers (vs. MS 180) are not significantly different. But, as we know, these parameters do not necessarily translate into impressions of practical use.

Will you have a matching .325 drum/sprocket for such an experiment?

In the (European) manuals of analogous Dolkita saws, the noise figure is given as really low. I have another saw with a similar Lwa and it is indeed quiet. Did you get that impression too?

Im not sure the only other saw I have been running lately has been the 288 and it's the loudest dam thing I own so everything seems quite by comparison. I'll have to run it with the 170 some time and see.

Im not sure if I will try the 325 at this stage. I might just shorten some other 3/8lp chains to suit this bar. It's 46dl so the 44 and 50 link chains I already have don't fit just to be annoying

Other than a cheap bar being available, is there any advantage to .325? I have always found that a good quality 3/8 LP chain is about as good as it gets on a sub-50cc saw, and there are numerous options. My favorite is the Oregon PXL but there are many other good ones out there. Gonna try Husky X-Cut next, I absolutely love it in .325 on my 50cc saws.

Probably not. I think I will just leave it with the 3/8LP and have some fun with the saw.

If I get time during the week I'm going to pull the cylinder and have a look at the ports. Hopefully a little clean up and a muffler mod will get a bit more out of it
