Heys Studs,

Just picked a nice Stihl 025 runs strong at full throttle and cuts like beast...yet it cuts out when I ease up of the trigger.
I will fire right back up...but does the same thing!:crybaby2:
Running TruFuel 40:1

Any ideas of the problems or places to start?

Thanks in advance,

Reg
Mix up a gal of real gas and decent oil.... trufuel is absolute garbage IMO, and have several saws that do NOT run on it at all...and not just stihl, but stihl, poulan, and husqvarna....

Picked this little saw up yesterday for cheap on CL close by. Seller said it started and ran well till it warmed up. It’s ran great for me so far. Holds idle upside down and sideways. Piston is gunked up but still has machine marks. Appears unmolested and well cared for. Anti vibe chain took a minute to sharpen.
If it does start cutting out, anyone know what it might be?

Could be a bad tank vent, fuel line, or carburetor diaphragms. Often, poor fuel pumping is the cause of running well till warm. At cold start and until a certain point, the volatility of the fuel creates pressure on the tank that masks a poor pump. But after running for a while, the pressure drops and then a poor pump or metering diaphragm will show up.

The guy said he put an AM carb and fuel filter in. Didn't change anything so he put the original carb back. No mention of it being rebuilt or not. About 55 degrees this morning I made a few cuts with it and it ran fine. Might be different in hotter weather. Idle speed occasionally increases a touch but does hold well. Think I'll call it good for now and give it a bath, new chain, muffler mod and timing advance.

Anyone tried an eBay AM tank for the 661 yet? They look to all be the same mfg but prices are all over the place.
Owner doesn’t want to spend the $200+ for oe on this particular saw.

Can't say that I have, however, if it's anything like all the other Stihl AM tanks I've come across, such as the 440 and 660, I would highly recommend checking out the tank vent to ensure the duckbill valve inside the vent isn't stuck causing it not to vent and the saw dying from lack of fuel.

I have a couple 044 farmertech tanks that were in a lot of 1122, 1128 pts. They seem OK but I haven't used one yet

I have a 046 farmertech tank that has been working fine. The only thing I had to do was swap the carb mounts from the old tank to the new one. The new ones were too short. Easy to do.
