I was approached today by someone complaining about an MS250 being hard to pull over...sound familiar?

It there a boss on the cylinder casting where a compression release valve could be easily installed?

Thanks,

Mark

Not really, might have an easy start rewind and associated parts for it but that’s about all I can say for help. The cylinder is all fins all the way around.

My 250 is stock and as easy as any other small saw to pull over. Mebbe something is wrong with the recoil?

I’ve never found them hard to pull either but I have heard this as a complaint before so to some they must pull hard.

I need guidance on an aftermarket 066.

This thing has too much compression and spark advance for a skinny 80 yo to start. Or anyone for that matter. 💩

Even had a monster size friend try and all it does is kick back. (Yes, we drilled the bleed port on the comp release.)

Now I seem to remember something about the ignition coil having a spark retard built in to the OEM coil.
True?
Can someone confirm?

That's what I thought from reviewing photos of saws I'd worked on earlier this year, but I had to ask.

Mark
Your not wrong. Those might be 025C with primer blub. But no MS250 as I know of. Some 025 have cylinder with decom boss but not tapped. Not seeing those everyday but they do exist.

I wouldn't trust an AM decomp to be doing anything, the 395xp husqvarna decomp is gonna be my go to for most.
If that doesn't help pull the flywheel and take .005 off the key to retard the timing, but in my experience it is just gonna need 5-6 tanks of fuel run through it.

Carl - the OEM coils indeed have some advance built into the electronics, and will not produce a spark at lower speeds, I think something like 600 RPM is the lower limit. If your saw is firing at lower cranking speeds I might suspect the coil is at fault.

Thanks Mark.
I know for a fact that my 1/2” drill motor won’t turn fast enuf to generate spark on solid state but works fine on the old duffers.

This is the first 162 I’ve messed with, it’s no wonder they don’t have any power look at the slit it has for an exhaust port along with one 5mm or so hole for exhaust outlet. Also had a Stihl branded plug made in Cz which is a first for me to see.

Lookswise they are miles ahead of the MS-170/180 series. Holy crap those are ugly.

Hi guys I’ve been a member and mostly lurker on here for a long time. My father recently passed away and I’m trying to sell a few saws for my mom that he had. Looking for advice on value.
He had a 044 with the slant fin (i think) and red lever. So far I cleaned up the 044 and took a few pics. It runs idles and oils good. He also had a couple 066’s, 020, 020av that I’ll be checking condition of and selling for her.
Thanks for any help
