Yeah, a FBM ad.

As if I care - but thought You StihlHeads might get one off....
Kind of a carbed version of the 400.1 but only for sale in other countries besides the USA. I believe they have less power than the 400.1 because of mild porting and loose squish to deal with poor gas in certain parts of the world

271-291 are same saw minus cc the 271 and 261 actually share a piston and are very choked down port wise. Joe ported a 271 and it made more power than a stock 362 on the dyno.
Don’t actually think it ran too bad for a
Clamshell with a widened and lowered intake and a widened exhaust

So, I got this 2024 MS-194C from a pawn shop for $175.00. Seems to be pretty low mileage, starts, runs, and oils just fine. Did I do ok, even with the short dick bar and chain?

Excellent price, they go for 479 in top handle form and closer to 500 in rear. Pull flywheel and advance the timing one cooling fin roughly, open the small holes in muffler baffle and the outlet some then retune the carb to just clean up in the cut and it will become a completely different saw power wise. I have a 194t and if I saw this one in a local pawn shop for 150-175 it would be going home with me also. They are a clamshell saw but hold up well also the small style metal spike from the 171-251 will fit. The 250/251 spike is more aggressive than the 171 style.

Thanks, will do. I'm going to use it along with my Echo CS-303T for trimming small stuff. If I found the carcass of the top handle version would it be possible to convert it to top handle? I prefer top handle for a small saw but rear handle is certainly not a deal breaker.

Yes if it’s all there they can be changed

You can always upgrade to an 8" bar, the Milwaukee bar will fit and I can even make a 3/8p .043 33 driver full skip chain for you if you want to really sport some cutting bling!! :D

So I did the usual inspection and de-limit the carburetor, which was easy enough. Went to check the spark plug, and the plug boot came off with this little plastic cover, with the wire hook still inside it. Had to remove the recoil and ignition to get enough room to force the hook and end of the plug wire back into the rubber boot. How important is this little plastic cover? Is it going to hurt anything if I just leave it off, like affect the airflow from the fan across the engine? There is a wall of plastic between the spark plug area and the cooling fins. The saw starts right up and seems to run just fine.

Its probably there just to help keep you from snagging the wiring on something or just banging it with something.

They don't make them like they used to.......

A guess. Never worked on that saw, and can't tell from pic what it does....

If not for cooling, it may be there to keep out crap from getting inside. Would a grommet work or some duct tape short term?

I'm just going to trim the cover so it holds on to the plug boot by friction but can be easily pulled off prior to removing the plug. They should have designed it that way to begin with. If you pull the plug boot off with the wire hook as I did, you have to remove the recoil and ignition coil to get enough slack in the wire to put it back on.

The cover is made out of rubbery plastic, I just split the inside loop of it so that it will clip onto the plug wire boot. That done, I worked the saw for awhile today cutting some smaller branches that fell down in a storm last week. The 194 cuts and oils quite well, as good as a stock 31cc saw can. The exhaust sound has a nice snort to it also. The only gripe I have is the loose feeling of the spring AV mounts, I like the rubber ones of my Echo saws alot better. Otherwise, the 194C is a fun little saw to run!

Putting those wire hooks back in plug boots is lots of fun.......
