Blue to purple is 540-590° F, clutches get that hot too often...

Other have suggested running as it is (missing one liner) and/or removing the other two liners. For the short term he will use the 009 clutch as I explore other options.

I stand corrected then. Thanks Mark

Chris B sent me a link for some brake shoe adhesive that he has used, but at $26 for the kit we will pursue other options first.

That's really not a bad price if you get several uses out of it, especially fixing things no longer produced. I once balked at paying $40.00 for the two part tube of Devcon DA290 plastic welder but then discovered I have many uses for it.

11.9 mm wide and 64.2 mm diameter roughly. Did yours have the flat cover with nut and washer on it. Supposedly the 020av and 015 used the same clutch but I haven’t found a part number on it. May need to dig in my books later. Even brake cleaned the bar oil off the asbestos liners 😂

MS310 with very low compression. I measured the piston (1.847") and the bore (1.849/1.850") and the rings look good with plenty of spring.

Any idea why the compression would be so low?

What was the reading? Some of these saws had pretty loose squish bands and they can be even worse with aftermarket top ends.

Here's a running and complete red lever 026 for $200.00+shipping on Fleabay if anybody is interested. The ad says the oiler doesn't work, mebbe it would be an easy fix.

What makes a Stihl saw a red lever model?

The 024/026/MS260 are my favorite Stihl saws of all. Love the design, I think the later ones were a step backward even if they are stronger. I think the success of the old as Methuselah MS250 is due the fact that it is essentially a plastic 024.

From what I understand they have better stock port timing. However, the seller states this one looks to have a new jug on it.
The red leaver means absolutely nothing and is a myth, Stihl molds their own plastics and it probably saved money at the time on red vs black or just did because. My all original from
1991 red lever 026 isn’t any stronger than some of the newer ones with black switch. Some cylinders may be better than others depending on brand mahle vs ks but the multi function lever has no indication to it. The myth started and perpetrated as a reason to charge more because people think they’re better.

The 025/250 was a strong seller because it was pushed like the 029/290 and was a durable saw for what it was. Not sure what saw would have more power the 024 or 025/250, even though it’s only 42cc vs 45cc I’m guessing the 024 will still win by a little.
