I bought 1 of the "unbranded" Zama carbs from Dave. Works perfect. No issues.
I also bought one on ebay from another vendor that is stamped Zama. That works perfect as well.

Thanks. I'll look inside the original carb and if it looks nasty or questionable go ahead and order one. This saw was not used much at all but had some fuel of a fine vintage in the tank when I got it.

If it is a fully adjustable version carb I've had good luck pulling them apart spraying with carb clean and blowing out with compressor. Put in new diaphragm and set jets back to where they were before removing and 95% of the time they are fine. Older carbs seem to have larger passages that clean out easier.

What Walbro is it? Many of the 024's had WT-22's and WT-194's which are desirable carbs for those saws. Shouldn't be much of an issue to clean up the one you have, though I shy away from compressed air as a cleaning option. Can distort or destroy the tiny check valves. Some carb cleaner should do the trick or you can soak it in SeaFoam if it seems varnished. An ultra sonic cleaner can probably save it if all else fails.

Hey folks. I'm putting the 024 back together and I have what appear to be two inner bar plates. The IPL calls them this, numbers 18 and 19 on page seven. Does that mean these two are sandwiched together between the engine and the bar? I would think the bar would be sandwiched between the two bar plates, but apparently not. This is my first Stihl and it is different than the Echoes I am used to!

I "think" the difference is due to the 2 bar nut and single bar nut saw.

The two plates are slightly different. One plate mounts to the saw where the bar studs hold the plate on. The other mounts (the one with the larger holes) over the bar studs and is held on by a set screw. Only difference I see and know of.
So only mount 1 plate to the saw.
I personally like the one that mounts over the bar studs.

My 034 is a Farm Boss model and does not even have a plate there! (I was disappointed). Yea, there should only be one plate used.

I'm not sure if they made a plate for the 034 that accommodates a side adjustment, mine does not have that and the case will not accommodate it.

Wasn't able to make any chips with the 024 over the weekend, but she's back together now except for the carb, bar, and chain. I went ahead and ordered one of Dave's carbs along with a few other little things I needed. I figger I'll use this carb for now and keep the original as a spare. On Dave's carb, what should the initial setting be? The repair manual lists one turn out for each screw as the initial setting.

Got the 024 back together last night. The screws on the new carb were set at 1-1/2 turns out each so I left them there. The saw will start and run at half choke. Hopefully I can mess with it some more today and get it running properly.

Anybody know what these three parts go to? I couldn't find anything missing on the 024. These were in the box with it, however I am not certain they came from this saw as I had some duplicates of other parts in there.

The screw and wing type washer go on the Annular rubber right next to the carb on the starter side. Helps hold the rubber mounted AV in place. See the photo.
Not sure about the other round piece.

Does that O ring go under the oil pump to seal it?

Also, there is no half choke, it is high idle, so just tune the low & idle screw. I would try 1 full turn out.

Glad it runs.

The wing type washer may shorten the length of the big screw. Holds it out away from the inside of the Annular rubber.
