I certainly hope MaxFlow sticks around a while. There’s no doubt the models they got their start on, are dwindling and no longer the main models used. I hope they continue to find ways to stay in the game for a long time to come.

That kind of surprises me - I hardly ever have to clean the air filter on my 462’s. Maybe once a week bang’em out, and about once a year replace them.. Stihl got it right with the 462. At least, in my experience.

I agree, the 462s in their current state are tits.

This is probably a retarded question but I seriously can't remember.

What kind of set up do you need to run a maxflow without the cover on a 661 ?

The kit should come with a “backing plate” to be used for securement, in place of the full cover. That is all. Just have to swap the quarter turn knob from the cover.

I thought the plate in the 661 kit went on the cage and inside the filter ? I know what you mean on the kits for the older saws but I could've swore it was different on the 661 ?

Looks like I consolidated all my MaxFlow extra parts and pieces in one spot, so I’m not sure what came with what model kit. I could not find a backing plate that was large enough for the 661… Sorry I can’t help you. I always run my covers.

The foam filter without a cover? I don’t think MaxFlow offered/offers one.

I believe there’s a RedBeard Saw setup that is very similar, though.

I could've swore guys had a plate for the knob on the 661 set up, I could be wrong.

I think your right, I know I got a separate cap/cover with my 088 kit, only thing is that the rain cover is actually designed for the 084 , which is why I think they included it?

I was actually wrong, I talked to Julian today and he told me he had to hack an old cover up to make it happen.

I just bought this 'parts' ms400c from the big auction site, and was told the Piston and Cylinder are in good shape, but upon arrival I've got my doubts...

What do y'all think, should I throw a fuss? Looks like some magnesium transfer onto the cylinder, intake side. I can't tell if there is scoring on the cylinder, but this is a disappointing sight... Spent $400 and it's missing top cover, ignition coil, clutch cover, so throwing in a P/C kit would be a huge expense. Think magnesium would clean off as easily as aluminum?

Throw a stink, he may claim parts in add no return but you can try. Supposedly the mag isn’t supposed to harm the cylinder or transfer like aluminum. That looks like carbon scoring going on there. Unless someone replaced the mag piston with aftermarket aluminum that they do make

I agree, if told the piston and cylinder are in good shape and to see that, I would be disappointed too. As is, does it have compression? If it has lousy compression then that can be some ammo if you decide to fight it regarding the piston and cylinder being "good". Having paid $400 and if you buy a piston and cylinder you are looking at another $350 - $420, Coil = $100, Clutch Cover = $55, top cover $60-$90, you are almost at what that saw brand new runs. Those are OEM parts I was looking at, not AF. Its possible that someone here in the forums may have options for you that may not be as expensive.
