Hi guys new to this thread. I have a 048av that I'm porting. The cylinder is done and I have the saw all cleaned up nice, but I'm having a tough time finding a pto side crank bearing. The one that came out of it is junk. A 038 bearing fits the mag side, but I'm not finding anything to match the pto side. Does any one have the part# for this bearing?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I believe this bearing has been NLA for quite some time.

I would say so :D I have a guy who is a skf dealer checking for me rite now, so we will see what he can fined.
Good luck been unavailable for ages, they make one that’s the right overall size i believe but the outer race needs to be relived to accommodate the seal. I have one on the shelf I was lucky enough to find years ago for mine

Did you guys see these are coming ?

That kind of surprises me - I hardly ever have to clean the air filter on my 462’s. Maybe once a week bang’em out, and about once a year replace them.. Stihl got it right with the 462. At least, in my experience.

Yeah but if Max flow admitted that the new saws are getting to the point they’re not needed is a poor business decision

I went with the Egan filter for my 500 and have been very happy. I don’t cut like most so I can’t give real world feedback

Ya I think Egans set up for the 500/661 is pretty good. I bought a few of these foam filters for the 261s and 462s..they work as they advertise..I like them. But I'm not sure it's worth it for the saws with injection unless you're in some NASTY conditions.

I would never have seen those coming. The old style Stihl saws absolutely needed what MaxFlow offered. And they were awesome, running 1128s (046/440/460s) as a saw module on fires there wasn’t a need to clean them for an entire two week roll. They didn’t let anything get past the filter base, unlike the 500i or the 661.

The 462, 400 and 362? Absolutely not. Just like Husqvarnas and Jonsereds. The problem MaxFlow was solving was unique to certain Stihl models… And now that those problems are gone, I guess they have to find a way to stay in business. It literally takes the effectiveness of the centrifugal pre-separation away.

I wonder what modifications one has to make to the top cover, it looks extensive. Certainly more than the stupid trimming it takes to make the black cover fit a 500i. At least there WestCoast Saw now has a filter that does the same thing and fits under the stock hood. Gordy Perrigo is a guy I wish had been around 30 years earlier.

I guess we'll find out how well they sell. Seems like the foam filter thing is more popular now than it ever was...
