I'm not a huge Stihl guy but some of their products I really like, especially the 024, 026, MS-250, and MS-260.
I started out liking Stihl, but the more I worked with Husky I found I like them too and then Homelite and McCulloch and now am looking at getting a Pioneer 650. I think I found out that I just like chainsaws....

Agreed, 026 is a good saw.

I’ve had several 024/026’s over the years but no ms 260’s yet in 44 or 44.7mm. Usually I’ll get them not running then fix and sell. I have a 026 red lever I got in 1991 new and will never get rid of the saw dad bought me.

260's just don't come up very often, I suppose it was a transitional model being the 026 with the new MS model number. According to the pics this one still has all the factory stickers and most of the paint still on it!
Yes was the transition between the 026-261 some of them were 44mm like the 026 and the rest were 44.7mm.

Now I have learned something...did not know that about the 260, just looked up the first manual that popped up on Google, must have been one for a later model.
Was done about the same time and for the same reasons the 346xp got a bump because of emissions. Had to choke them down more so the bumped the cc to compensate for the power lost.

The MS500I might not cure cancer ,but Depression???? Maybe!
I recently procured it for work and have been using it since last Friday.
With literally thousands of trees to buck ,drop ,and disassemble from Helene it's a weapon of choice with a full comp a 25" bar and an 8 pin sprocket.

They are an awesome saw, very lightweight for the power.

So, the 500 is a true EFI engine? Does it have a fuel pump, ECM, O2 sensor?

Pressurized fuel system with a hand prime pump for initial start, diaphragm pump to keep injection pressure while running, 2 temp sensors and a barometric sensor. Ecu runs off the generator under flywheel and has spark plug lead out if it. Seems to be doing well overall, the ts500 I was first then the smaller disk ts 450i. Then came the ms 500i chainsaw and just recently a 102cc injected concrete saw.

Sounds great, Echo needs to get off their rear and come up with EFI.

So, what's up with the MS-290? Are they a good farm and firewood saw? Seems like you can always get a nice one for well under three bills from Fleabay or FB. If the 290 is just a bigger MS-250 then I would say it's a winner.

The 250/270/290 are all small increment hp jumps, 250 = 3.0 hp, 270 = 3.4 hp and the 290 = 3.8 hp. If they are anything like the 271/291...then cylinders are a nightmare to get (lack of aftermarket options). Good saws though, I have two 271s, but prefer my 261 which is the same size but with more horsepower.

The MS-260 went for $321.00 plus shipping, I bowed out at $275.00. As much as I want one of these, that's alot.
Yeah, I don't think I would have paid that much either, I probably would have looked for one that needed work. You might put out a "wanted" post here on the forums, might find one or two that might be available at a reasonable price.
