Wished they would have produced the AV version in the aftermarket.
P/n for the cap is 1117 350 0500, my Stihl shop had one on hand. 066, 038, 028, etc should all work on it.Old Stihl saws on the workbench this week. I am in need of a fuel cap & gasket for the 042 as this one is cracked and leaks badly. Any suggestions for where to find a cap (even a part number) would be most appreciated.

The 056 is done and ready to cut wood. This customer says they have a few trees down and need the saws to get them cleaned up. I am going to try and convince them to sell these saws to me when they are done with the job. They would go well in my display.

How do you like it compared to an 038mag Al ?I know this is a Mac thread but will add an 048 has plenty of power to run a 32"bar .At the time it was the highest H.P. per weight ratio on the market .Urban legion has it this model was specically designed for the US Forestry Service but I doubt that to be factual .BTW I have two .
I’d say the 038 mag and 042 would be pretty much dead even and the 048 a bit faster. 042 is a 72cc saw like the 038 mag and a 048 is a 76cc big brother in the same family. How do you like it compared to an 038mag Al ?
I believe the 042 was actually 68cc with a 49mm bore: https://www.acresinternet.com/cscc....8ea47c2d0942227788256ba2004878e7?OpenDocumentI’d say the 038 mag and 042 would be pretty much dead even and the 048 a bit faster. 042 is a 72cc saw like the 038 mag and a 048 is a 76cc big brother in the same family.
You are correct I was remembering the wrong 038 that was compared to the 042. 038 super is 67cc and I had one of them also.I believe the 042 was actually 68cc with a 49mm bore: https://www.acresinternet.com/cscc....8ea47c2d0942227788256ba2004878e7?OpenDocument
While the 048 has a 52mm bore: https://www.acresinternet.com/cscc....e2b1cb1db5ad1b4188256ba20049aa99?OpenDocument
