I recently acquired an 056 with the 54mm top end. Do any of you know if an 056 mag II top end could be made to fit the super bottom end similar to the whole 044/046 or 064/066 hybrid concept?

Conventional wisdom would suggest not. Different case assembly to accommodate the larger top end for starters. I believe this may also include different bearings. I'd need to review the data sheets to see what else, but it's a little more than elongating some holes and making a new gasket.

Just curious, what is different between the case on an 056 super and a mag II? I have heard the mounting hole pattern is different, and maybe fastener size.

So everything I've run across pretty much confirms that 54mm is probably where you're gonna be stuck using the case you have. The bearings are actually the same bearings with the 56mm Mag case. They're just referred to as being 'included" with the later case assembly and part number, not different. The tech notes describe a variety of other items like air flow/filter setup and differences in the WJ4 carb for the Mag application, but the case change for the larger top end is the main consideration. Different spacings, larger fasteners, and more case material in the mounting surface to handle it all.

There's a lot of reading on the subject if you Google it. A couple guys say they've turned Supers into Magnums, no problem. Others have called BS on that.

While anything is possible, most would stick with the 54mm configuration with some minor port work and slight timing advance over trying to adapt the larger top end to the smaller case. Those who've run both will also claim the difference between a Super and a Mag doesn't become evident until running 36" plus setups in big wood anyway. I can say from personal experience that a well tuned 87cc Super with the multi-port muffler and a sharp chain is a pretty stout saw in its own right -- and that's up against my rather bad ass 066 flat top which is no slouch by any means.

Not exactly anything new here on the subject, but an interesting and fun refresher for me nonetheless.

If no numbers on side I believe it is the Stihl "common" coil but don't quote me.
If so it fits 026 038 044 etc.
Still may of not answered your question though lol.
Those pictured are the only markings I could find.

Got this 075 that I'm currently building. Posted a little on the other site but I'm using a later model 075 crankcase that has the brake ears for the brake handle. Other than being dirty it ended up being in pretty good shape. I'll re-use most of the parts on other than the crankcase and handlebar, that and I ended up pulling the trigger on a new walbro wj-112 carb. Got to use my new flywheel side puller tool on it. There's nothing wrong with my press but I really like Stihls new tool. Super easy with many different models. Just wish they would have sent all of the correct installing sleeves with it.

Wrapping up my latest two builds.....a fleabay MS200T that was.really low hour unit and only actually needed a few things to be 100%...

And an early slant fin 044 which I used a 12mm crank in the 10mm case after grooving a channel into the case for the connecting rod clearance.

Worked the transfers over and have the squish is right around .018. Gonna see how she acts and then decide if I wanna change the timing. Still gotta finish thr muffler up, hopefully this weekend. And waitingnon a few.small parts I still need for it. I built one exactly like this for @blacksmith a few years back and it is a absolute beast of a worksaw.

That 200T will bring a nice addition to the retirement fund.

But when someone pays $2500 for one like I've actually seen advertised elsewhere, they belong in a tree with the seller.
