Nice Mike. I think it may have been the predecessor of the 360's.

Yes, I believe it is the predecessor to the 036, with a 2mm smaller bore. I believe the jugs swap, but it the P&C is good on this, I think I will keep it this size. Al would know more, the 026 & 036 are his specialty! (Not that there is anything he does not do a great job on, but he really knows those saws).

I had an outboard motor that had a magneto. I got shocked by the magneto one day and thought I got hit with 110v's. They pack a pretty good punch!

For clarification according to my IPLs' dated 1987 for the 034 and 1991 for the 036 both were solid state self contained ignition systems,no points .This info is directly taken from IPL's from a Stihl dealers book .The real McCoy in a manner of speaking .

Ok. Maybe I was thinking of a different model. I thought the early models may have had a magneto. The pre-electronic ignition models. Not sure what year that was.

By definition they are all magnetos .The only diff is the solid state models use electronic trigger devices in place of breaker points . Now I have seen early 038 cases that appeared they might have had provisions for points ignition but I've never seen any equipted with points .

Solid state, electronic type can be a study all on its' own .There are variations such as auto advancing models used on some .Some have rev limiters etc .Most are self contained but some used a seperate trigger device not contained within the coil ,external .

just curious which should be in the mag. if I had to guess, it'd be the p/n w/highest last 4 digits. ie: latest one made?

Here's what I think I've found .Using flywheel numbers first followed by coil numbers--as follows .FW 1119-400-1210-coil 1119-400-1300. FW 1119-400-1200 coil 1119-400-1310,points type .Fw 1119-400-1203 coil 1119-400-1301< some type "generator" under the FW.have no idea what it's function is .

Fw 1119-400-1202 coil 119-400-1301 ,self triggered or coil 1117-400-1305 external solid state trigger device .If I recall my 038 av has this type with the trigger Bosc system .Both my Mags have the first mentioned in this post which are SEM brand .

Now weather you can mismatch coils with flywheels or not I have no idea nor what might work in place of OEM numbers .It could be an 028,042 or 048 because they are the same design of saws .---good luck
