On the 038 ,I have two 038 mags, one had been modified and regularly runs a 32" bar and has no problem with it ,plenty of oil .If it might be partly plugged up try flushing the system with a tank full of kerosene or diesel fuel .Just remove the bar and let it idle on the ground .

A guy brought me a nice looking 036 wa scored piston on the exhaust side, not hurt bad at all.

What set of aftermarket piston and rings y'all recommend?

Block tested good , I think they just hammered it too much while it was cold , or a carb problem

Yep. There are certainly more economical options out there, but an 036 deserves better than the Chinese cheapies if you can't quite afford OEM at upward of $85 these days. I'd probably go with a Meteor anyway just out of pure principal against Stihl pricing knowing the markup is nearly 100% on many of their pistons. The quality is just as good IMHO.

Had two trees come down in a park I was in today, one was an 80' pine that took out a small oak , while the guys were asking about who was gonna pony up I put on my safety gear and had the trees cut off the stumps and bucked off the road with the trusty Super 028 wood boss! I really had to reach on my under cuts for the pine being that I'm running an 18" bar with 3/8s chain.
The old 028s always impress people who never used an older stihl.

I got a 026 a couple months ago, and finally got around to messing with it. I can't find the H needle, there's a chunk of white rubber blocking it. Is this common? It's running pretty rich. It also dies when tipped forward at idle EVEN if it has only idled for a half second. I might have to clean the carb since it wasn't responding much to the L screw until I fired it up again, then it was very sensitive to it.

I think it's a pro too. That's kinda stupid. It was too rich at 40deg F on 40:1. Maybe I'll run this gas guzzler on 32:1. I poured some oil in the tank and ran it again and it had a bit more power. I'll look into a different carb when I start modifying it. It has the original bar from '98 with Rock City Machine written on it.

A guy on the bay has em for $48. I've bought a couple. WT-22's aren't bad either.
