I opened and sifted through two mildly bigger parts boxes looking for a part.
I found what I needed, and a whole lot more.

I wonder, do I have enough oil lines and pump drives to keep my large frame girls running?!

Finally found a seller for Euro spikes for a 7900...I think. $40 for the set shipped from Liverpool. lol We'll see. They had a Label I needed in stock so decided to try them for the spikes. Expecting a message telling me they are unavailable, or only one side is. They still list the good mufflers too (038-174-200). Price was about a dollar less than I can buy them directly from Makita for. Makita USA does not recognize part numbers 038250020 or 957250060.

🤞
Well, something is on the way. I am hoping they have not superceded to the USA spikes. Will report on what I receive.

I hope you are correct. The saw will be a bit unique with the small dawgs. I may order a second set for one of the PRZ2's. The large ones mostly eat up bar length for me. I am working on making another 'unique' Makita as well. 5001 with non-assisted start and non cat muffler. Have the parts, just need to assemble sometime (and take the saw out of the box). I failed to find correct starter label (makita sent PS-5105 when I thought I had correct number), so I ordered the regular one.

Hello, everyone! Just purchased a Dolmar PS-5105 S from a nice gentleman on this forum. It is one of the earliest 5105 chainsaws with a high speed coil similar to 5100S. I wanted to keep a spare coil on hand. I understand these came with 181 143 110 coils and replacement coil was 181 143 210 coil that is red. I also heard that original coils from 5100S will work, though the lead wire will be longer. That had 181 143 204 part number. The trouble is all I see online are Chinese clones of the original Prufrex coil. Was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of where I could purchase either of the 3 coil varieties mentioned. If anyone has experiences with Chinese clones, any suggestions for specific seller? Thanks!

The "Speed" coils are NLA as far as I understand/know.

Heck, even the "Speed" cylinder hood stickers are NLA.

The PS-5100S & PS-5105S were US market models only.
An effort of Makita to boost sales.

Your best bet is to keep an eye out for "Speed" parts saws.
They are usually scored/seized with good coils.

Good luck.

Thanks. Yeah, I wish there were even low-speed coils available for that saw. I don't care to run it in the 14k's, but I understand that low speed coils became available once crankshaft changed. So short of changing flywheel, there is not much left. And even then, if you find a flywheel, the slow coils may be hard to find.

Just tune Your Speed rich to run at a lower rpm.

My freak Dolmar PS-460 runs at 15750rpm WOT no load - she is a hoot!

That’s a stubborn saw! It repays you (for your effort) in RPM.
She's alright, usually starts easy.
That video her starting in reverse was after her sitting unused for over 1 month or so.
She only starts in reverse having sat for a long time, and she doesn't do it always.

In regards to the high rpm & reverse startup , I have been told "carb tune is off", "replace the coil" , "You'll fry the saw" ...
Nah, she is fine and she fits me well.
We are both not quite right on the inside, though don't show it on the outside.

Wanted to ask you all Dolmar enthusiasts. Since there is such a deficiency in pre-2010 ignition coils on the market, the only difference I see that was made to the crankshaft position of the key. The 2010-13D information states that "The system of crank shaft and ignition are replaceable only as a set." What I am curious about is that it does not specifically say the flywheel needs replacing. Does anyone that may have both pre-2010 and post-change Dolmars of same variety (510, 5100, 5105, 460, 4600, 4605) - whether the only difference is the position of the magnet on the flywheel at the top dead center? Should be easy to find out without taking much apart - spark plug out to find TDC and then remove starter rope assembly to see location of the magnet. If the magnets on both varieties are exactly 90 degrees apart, it comes to mean that the old coils being CDIM 100/2 and new coils being 100/5 are different in their timing to spark. Thus, for pre-2009 units with bad coils, all you would need to do is install newer coil meant for Makita branded saws and simply reposition flywheel 90 degrees retarded (counterclockwise). This may account for /3 difference in coils. I think this may be worth a try.

Edit: I have a 2009 version Dolmar 5105S in mail to me. Once I get it next week, I will post the photo here of my flywheel magnet position in relation to the coil at TDC. All I need is a newer, post 2010 model to post the same.

Most Dolmar parts I've needed have been shipped, just been taking weeks before dispatch. I have been surprised on some being still available (PS 9000 parts). Got a update on the start/stop switch and wire, taking about 4 weeks to get to the retailer, due 20/06. Fingers crossed.

There is a law how long a manufacturer needs to secure spare parts after discontinuing a product.

The 9000 shares many if not most parts with the 9010, thus the parts availability.
Makita did remove the 9000 from the once shared 9000/9010 parts list though.
Thankfully they are not updating/changing the 9010 part numbers so One can pull up compatible 9000 part numbers from elder IPL's.

A couple more years and we can forget about getting OEM parts other that NOS and parts saws.

Well i've run into a problem, the oil tank plug I ordered does not fit at all, barely goes a thread in. Anyone able to shed any light? On the plus side air filter and fuel tank plug fitted up fine. Might have to grab a second filter for storage. Localish I also picked up a Solo 694 flywheel and coil.
