Had a look at the 9010 so far not good the guy said it was a good fuel mix View attachment 16396
Carbon in the port shows at "some point" it wasn't running real lean. Ether "something" has changed or the mix wasn't ok for milling or carb not set a bit fat.
What does the carb side of the piston look like Andrew ?

I haven't investigated that far yet Simon as he is undecided what is the next step it was an eBay purchase and he has only had 1hr of use from the saw and is waiting for the seller to know what he wants too do about refund/ compensation

How long is that bar? Don't know that I would put a stock 9010 on a mill with anything bigger than a 36". I'm sure it could do 42" but that's a lot of work for any 90cc saw.

Surprisingly the 9010 can handle 42" in Australian hardwood, it along with the solo 690 and dolmar 143 handle it better than a 395 husky does imhmo (in my humble milling opinion) ;)

EBay is a pain re saws at times. Especially rare ones, seller can be honest and you still get a bad saw if they lack the skills to accurately assess it's condition.
Dolly 166 in my case, and it was so hard for me to find one, I ended up choosing to take the loss and am getting the cylinder replated.

Milling is a different world from just bucking. I like Doug's stand on this... "Overkill us under-rated." Bucking up some 36-42" logs is one thing but across the grain milling for much longer WOT sustained cuts is alot more wear and tear. The older 95cc 143 and other 100cc+ saws would do better in this sort of condition. Guess I take the stance that, "yea 90cc can do it, but 100-120cc can do it with ease."

*cough*
New to forum, but definitely NOT new to milling ;)

Yes bigger IS better, I would not run my 60 or 72" bars with these saws - that is the domain of my 3120's, and 166 (when it is working properly - dolmar for play - 3120's wreck and rebuild lol).

It is common for entry level/hobbyist millers to run 660 or 395's here in oz due to the price of the big saws here. Density wise our hardwood is alot meaner. Those saws I mentioned do it better (imhmo) than the stihl or husky mentioned, not perfectly. And yes if I had to mill with either a 9010 or 143 it would be the 143 I would choose.

If you want these smaller saws to last, maintence is essential (sounds funny calling a 90cc saw smaller). Not to mention chain selection, raker depth and fuel ratio etc

I would not have done any milling with this saw (or any saw) without either pulling it down myself first (or if I couldn't having someone else do it). Nothing kills a saw quicker than milling if something is wrong.

*steps down from the pulpit* lol

Speaking of 143's anyone know of any aftermarket carbs that will fit? :)

Dolmar dealers in Germany got a message from Dolmar that they don`t have a delivery date until now for the PS-352. That means Dolmar doesn`t know itself, when they are going to release this model.
The real question is why they would even bother with another 30-40cc saw when they need a competitive top handle and 90cc saw here in the US??? The 9010 is way overdue for a replacement and I don't know that their current top handles would even come close to a 200t/201t or 35 l5 echo, etc...

Used 3410's seem to hold value here. Don't know if that's saw geeks or climbers holding up the price. The few reviews I've read people liked them.

As far as the Makita name in the US it's because Makita took over the distribution of Dolmars do to uneven service between distribution regions/distributors. Some people seem to think the sun rises and sets on Makita tools. As someone who used to make my living with tools I can say I was less than impressed with the few Makitas I owned.

Don't you think that most saw sales would be from the 30cc - 40cc range for most manufactors , and they haven't been updated for a few years so another string in Dolmars bow is a good thing

Here is another interesting snippet image.jpg
