Something about the old poulan is they don't tip over in back of truck/car riding right next to husky and Echos that are rolling around back there. Brother Fossil; I saw ya rocking a old homie in a chain thread that looked like it was tcob

That was an XL-76, 58cc. One of Homelite's faster units.

Well my #2 might be starting better soon. This is what is left of impulse line. Carb fuel line was replaced not long ago. I'm surprised it ran at all. Anyone know where other end goes?

What would saw act like with this line removed? Saw was leaking fuel. I kept tightening cap and whole time it was that line.

Not sure which saw you are referring to, but if it is your 4000 it very likely is the fuel tank vent line. If so, look for the little white double barb fitting rattling around in the fuel tank

No impulse line on that series.

If is your 4000, here's a link to a very good shop manual that's explains all.

is this just a tank vent line? Guess it is. Thanks a lot fossil. I appreciate the help very much. So I guess saw won't be starting better. I have 2 4000,s. One I bought in 85 and one I bought from this forum.

That would be my guess. There are two holes in the top pf the tank which are visible when you take the top cover (cylinder) off.
Fuel comes through the front hole and vent line goes through the rear hole. Vent line is the same size as the fuel line. The white barb is attached to the line with a duck bill valve on the end and pulled into the hole.
Have a look at the manual.

I looked at manual and I will use it a lot in future. It doesn't show where vent line goes. Any ideas? Thanks so much

Ok, not mine, but for sale.
I'll put it on the sale thread, just gonna give you fellas a heads up.
Says it runs well. Looks like a 28" bar.
Like the full wrap handlebar.
Looks like a low hour saw. Should clean up nicely.
Hes asking $200.
PM me if interested. I can take a look at the piston etc for you.

Found my first example of a “Half base gasket delete”! Ran great but wouldn’t idle right.

I have been offered a Poulan 3400 which currently doesn't start.
I have no experience with that model, so would you recommend buying
her or are typical spares next to impossible to obtain, especially abroad
in Europe?
Overall shape of her looks good and the price would be OK, I'd think
