Hopefully the wind didn’t beat you guys up too bad, .24 is enough to perk things up at least.
Max winds here were about 20mph, the .24” was better than a kick in the pills but not nearly enough. We are in a flood watch for tonight, guessers are flapping their gums about 1”-3”, I am not sure that will even get the creeks to rolling.

Had to get the reel going, we’ll probably be doing this dance for the next week or more in all the sweet corn fields. We have a second leakier set we’re probably going to have to drag out. I’d complain about fuel but it’s just good that we have water to pump.

Agreed love garlic. You grow that? When do you plant it. Splain for me a lil.

Had an inch and a half here. Really good rain. Needed it. Have several more chances coming. In a few days we could use a little more. That put us in a pretty good place right now

3” is a big rain around here. We’d have ditches full.

I haven’t been around here much… like everyone it’s been a busy spring and summer.

It’s not that uncommon for the kids to want to drive the tractors, but it was pretty neat to see my brother and his boy running my grandpa’s M.

I remember running it with my grandpa and my dad when I was a kid.

Of course my 9yr old wanted to race him every chance she could.

Yessir, we kinda went overboard as it’s the only the second time we have done garlic. This is regular hard neck garlic which is stronger flavored than the soft neck you usually see in stores.

Growing it’s pretty easy, we plant two rows with 12 inch spacing per mulch bed. You just plant the individual cloves in October/November, fertilize and water through the spring, pick your scapes mid spring, and they should be ready to harvest early July. Scapes are the garlic plants flower buds which need to be removed so that the bulbs can reach maximum size. It’s a pretty easy crop as long as you time it right.

Garlic was used to battle inflammation historically, really healthy for you. I like making tuna sandwiches with clove or 2 of garlic diced mixed in

Love garlic. Have been trying to grow for several years with very limited success. Last falls planting did not take well with 3 of 60 cloves planted coming up this spring. The ones that didnt survive had turned to mush.

Where do you get seed or the cloves. I’d like to try it in my garden. Then just cut the flowers off when I see em? I’d guess a balanced fertilizer? Or more phosphorus and potassium?

Helped my dad & brother run 40 head of AI’d heifers & 2 bulls thru yesterday then 52 head 2nd calf heifers/calves & 3 bulls today. Unfortunately one of the bulls had a broken unit.

I believe they have 110 more pairs to run thru.
We had around 2.25” last night/this morning.

Apparently you can plant the cloves from store garlic and get results but we got ours from a neighbor who has done it for a while. If you can’t find someone local who grows the good stuff you can order it online. It’s expensive per pound but you get a lot of cloves out of a pound.

Fertilizer we use the same starter as the rest and move to triple twenty, didn’t bother with finishing fertilizer for these. As for the flowers you cut them once the stem has made two curls. It’s done before the flower opens so it kind of looks like a teardrop shape.

Not my picture, but you get the idea. We also grow most of our veggies on raised plastic mulch beds which makes things a little easier.

A couple of questions to hopefully improve my results...
What soil type do you have, sandy, loomy, high drainage, or ?
How deep do you plant and how long before fall frost/freeze? The only area I have will get 6-8 hours of full sun, am exploring expanding to other improved sunlight time areas.

This is what I ended up with doing a spring replant!! About the size of a ping pong ball. They still taste great, way better than store bought.
The several that did survive did the split to become multiple clove bulbs.

Our soil is loamy overall but we have some areas where it’s more clay or sand. Drainage is good but raised beds make it better. Bulbs are planted 2-3inches deep root down. Not deep enough could lead to freeze kill. More sunlight is definitely preferable, the bulbs need the warm ground in the spring to start doing their thing. You can also try fabric or black plastic ground cover to help with soil temps.
