I too heat the house with firewood, but we need only 2-3 cord a year thus the savings from cutting firewood logs myself are negligible.
The joy of bucking logs is all I am after, my own firewood requirements do not suffice to satisfy this urge though.
For the last two years I have been offering neighbors, friends and coworkers to buck their firewood for the cost of fuel and oil - no bites.
I did a few log piles 100% at my own cost, not counting a beer or two and the odd snack.
I decided I won't lower myself to that level anymore - I stopped asking people whether I am ALLOWED to buck their firewood!
I've finished processing my this year's firewood, next year's firewood is ordered and payed for but delivery is a month late.
I haven't used my saws in about two months already!
