If Stihl designed their saws like their cases I wouldn't own Stihl saws. Worst designed POS I have ever seen. What good is a case that you can't stack? I am tempted to get the Husky square ones for that very reason, but them I only have one saw (out of a box) so...

The Echo and Husky boxes are ok, stay away from the Jred and unlabeled black boxes.

Husky power boxes are nice for stacking, but I don't leave them in cases when they are in my suburban.
If I had a truck I'd probably use them, as it is I've got a bunch of cases, sometimes I open one and get a surprise as theres a saw in it

Funny how guys think, I came across the forums searching for that info as I wanted to understand the numbering system. What I found out is most of it doesn't make sense, at least on stihls, you just have to memorize what they are or search them every time you find what you think is a deal.

Funny how we all found these saw forums, I was googleing splitting mauls (as I wanted a better maul then the two I had) and came across a few threads on AS, then I signed up so I could see bigger pics. I stayed in the firewood section for months, then wandered in the chainsaw for sale section one day on AS...

At the time I had no idea what a ported saw was, let alone the difference between a pro saw or a clam shell saw, that all changed rather fast like, when I sent this @Mastermind guy a PM about a saw he had for sale, next thing you know I had a ported 441, never touched my 40cc echo again, after one cut with that 441, then this mastermind feller had the decency to ask me after my 441, so what is next Matt, next thing ya know I had a 261, 362, 461, 661, etc, etc....long list!!

I got it and shipped it to a buddy who completely rebuilt it and ported the new cylinder that came with it, it's still got the MMWS sticker on it, I also have a 6421 he did with no sticker, it's in the suburban with a 24" on it at the ready.

Banana Breath fixed the 044 after she gave up the Ghost & he also Ported it.

That was supposedly one of the most clapped out 1128s he’d seen at that point.

Then he did the MS660.

That is too bad to hear. I never had a single problem with my cs400, pulled it out of the box and ran it for 4 years. Never tuned it, never polished it, never kept it inside the house, never made videos of it cutting cookies, it sat outside in the back of my truck, or in the wood shed, cold, rain, snow, didn't matter, just used it as a tool. Not some cherished possession. 18" bar, went after many 24-30" elms, with that cs400, it never quit.

I think that might be the reason it broke, I treated it like a spoiled rich kid and it rebelled when I asked it to work.

The day I bought that cs400 I wanted to buy a ms290, stopped at the stihl dealer was going to be $450-ish with tax, oil, extra chain, etc.

My (then) wife said your not spending $450 on a chainsaw, yes dear but we need a saw to feed the woodstove come winter time.

Low and behold she found out the cs400 was on sale at home depot for $250.

Little did she know about CAD, and $450 would be cheep, compared to what was to come....

Without derailing the thread excessively, that is sort of the way I arrived here....

I was Googling looking for Stihl 038 info and the rest is history. Or rather the "rest" is listed below....
My "original" 038 AV Super and 024 were joined by a blown up 038 Super that I rebuilt (Winter boredom in 2017/18 resulted in the need for a shop project, hence looking for 038 info). The intended straightforward rebuild as an 038 Super turned into a rebuild with a 52mm Magnum P&C. I may have added a bit more go as well having learned about porting and muffler mods. I always ran a 20" bar on my original 038 but the "Magnified" one really needs a 24/25" bar.
I think I like modded saws.
The "rest" are a Homelite XL Automatic (and to bring the thread back on track, it was bought from Ebay), a Mac 2-10A (Ebay), an 064 (project)(Ebay), an MS 650(project)(Ebay), a couple of 038 spares saws, Pro Mac 7-10A(Ebay), Jonsereds 80 and a 621 (local auction), Jonsereds 80 and an XG (Ebay). The last 80 and the XG were "hidden" in a job lot that was poorly listed and had been on E bay for 9+ months. I bought my first Model 80 and trealised I needed a new coil to get it running so bought the other 80 and XG as "spares".

I caught CAD from this forum - it should carry a health/wealth warning!

Regarding the pole saw discussion... I have a Stihl HT101 and a manual Marvin set up and use the Marvin much more frequently than the powered saw. Main reasons? It's easier to transport and it also has a longer reach.
