Did I see the word “voluntary”?

Yup. They essentially named three departments that could voluntarily apply for a severance package. It doesn't take much to figure out that in a small shop or small department this is a pretty crappy way to handle downsizing.

My boss said (and I quote), "They just can't cut anyone from this deparment!!!" As if the world would crumble if they did make cuts.

But the fact is they are going to make cuts. If someone takes the severance it saves the others their jobs. If no one takes it, we all roll the dice...

I took an early retirement option Jan 1, 2017. Work was getting bad and if we took the early retirement it would save jobs. 4 months after we took early retirements they permanently laid off 44 employees. August of this year they sold the business, those that stayed had their pay and benefits slashed and pensions were eliminated going forward. Just an example of a similar situation and the results.

Hey Studs...been a sec since I've been on here, other than some snooping around.
Friend of mine has a 034 Super...fairly clean---strong runner yet lower case needs replacing...has a broken case where the anti vibe bushing connects.
Wants $60 for it...cases I've looked at run anywhere from $25-100...how much work is it to make this a solid runner and install the new lower case half?

Is it worth fooling with period?

Later,
Reg

I would, but you know what they say about a fool and his money...

I would think it would need at the very least a salvage case, plus case gasket, cylinder base gasket (maybe), case bearings and oil seals. That and a bit of time to move everything over to the new (used) case.

Again, I'd do it, but I enjoy the work. YMMV.

Just looked and I saw an 034/036 case/crank/cylinder/piston on ebay for around $35 shipped. Not sure if the 034 has the same crank length as the 034Super...
