I was looking forward to the 385 as for the stock porting, but I guess I may have to have a 390 one ported, we'll see what comes out of it as there's no rush.

Yes sir.

So you bought it broken or it broke on ya? And I imagine there are some 385 heads out there.

Stick w the 385 in my opinion, some prefer it.
Thanks Dustin.
Does it matter if ported, figured it wouldn't then, plus a couple extra ccs at that point wouldn't hurt either.
If I was going to keep it stock I'd want the 385 cylinder if possible.

My buddy was trying to tune out the low side as it wouldn't hold an idle, bam slam pow gug.

This is Pearl, my 385 lowtop, full wrap.

Best check the big end rod bearing, they are notorious for taking them out, people try and run to high of rpm on them IMO
Yes sir.
For stock porting that's the one to have from what I have read and been told.
But I'd guess it's similar to the 10mm 044, once ported it's not gonna matter much as long as you have the room to work the numbers, just may be a bit more work.

setting idle and it did that? Kind of seems like it might not have been long for this world any ways.

I happen to have purchased a very nice 390 from an anonymous (lol) source...and it’s just been ported by @rattler. I started this journey with a banged up 385 lol.

You don't just set the idle do you lol.
But yes, that's the bummer about it, it's a bit suspect.
My buddy is a stihl guy, there's a good chance it was a chini P&C too. Wouldn't surprise me if that isn't why it would't idle .

New ported 385 p/c would be a lot of fun! Any idea which carb you have on it? I like the tilly but lots of folks like the walbro
