That would be fun. So are you hourly or day wage then?

By the hour, with generally a 6 hour day cutting. But we can work longer if we want to. We can’t work past 12:00 right now because of fire danger, so we are a little limited right now.

Here is my great Grandfather Ola Florholmen from Norway horse logging with palm trees in the background sometime in the late 1800's.
Was at my family reunion last weekend and took a picture of this from my late uncles old photo album.
No one has any idea which country he was logging in. But history has shown Norwegian axemen have been contracted all over the world.
One example is HBC the oldest corporation in North America (originally the Hudson Bay Fur Trading Company) in 1814 contracted Norwegian axemen to cut a road from York Factory in Hudson Bay northern Canada to what is now Norway House, Manitoba.

When I bought the machine the grapple side was open. When i bought this grapple the grapple side was closed plus the pin hole was smaller. I made two hangers to accommodate that. It was cheaper and faster for me at the time which was coming up on the end of winter. That was 6 years ago I believe and they've lasted somehow.

Four 10s and two 8s



Ash slipped off the stump. Angled the stump/face so when it closed it would slip off the stump. It was leaned into another tree and the landowner only wanted the ash gone. It didn't go right away but was free of the stump so I set a wedge in it and a few taps later came rocketing back. Worked out well.

What do you guys use for a tape nail? I found out early on the little horse shoe nails were pretty much useless in frozen hardwood so I make my own.

Doing that in the interior just reminds me off getting instantly blinded by sand and degreasing into a big tree branch. Helpless!
Only fell bug wood for a small heli in the 'interior cold' in terms of cold interior logging anyway. Only measure diameter
once in a while.

#9 one end goes into the butt well the other goes on top of the log it seems to work pretty well only bad part is you can’t trip it like a nail.

I’m a wild man and use a regular bent horseshoe nail. It doubles as a bar groove cleaner.

#9 one end goes into the butt well the other goes on top of the log it seems to work pretty well only bad part is you can’t trip it like a nail.

So you’re saying you can’t pull it out, as in you have to go to the end and pull it out? That looks like a Husqvarna tape?

Correct, I have one on a Spencer tape that’s used on the harvester calipers which make me measure from the top back to the butt anyways. If I remember today I’ll get a quick picture of it as well as the caliper in use.
