Hi,

sorry for my late replay. Its a IHC 856 - the one with a turbo and intercooler if I remember correctly. Very nice sound, but its now gone because of an engine failure.

Meanwhile my Buddy bought a new machinery. I like to share some Fotos:

I like your Jeep @sgt

And we also have to build some fances against deers. So the deers cant eat the new planted trees.

It's about 46" diameter at the top of the cut bank, and has some nice grain in it.

The local wood maggots will be along later for these rounds.

At the far side of the road, it's about 40". Both the Husky and the Mac have 32" bars.

Can you not haul it out to mill?

Someone could, but they're likely not going to. This is a ways out - the nearest mill that could handle this wood is about 3 hours one-way.

It's a candidate for an Alaskan sawmill though but since this is Federal ground, a guy would have to get a special use permit from the Forest Service.

I spy some sausage on that fir.

What model Husqy and Mac are you using?

XS385 and McCulloch SP-125. The 385 does just fine in this size of wood but I think I spoiled my chain cutting through one of the burls.

Having that 120cc power in bigger wood sure is nice.

I've been clearing roads again, due to a big wind event a few days ago and some big trees came down.

This is a big Doug Fir that brought down some Alder with it.

that’s lovely tree JJ as others have said it would mill well

Weird they can take rounds by not a sawlog? Maybe I’m trying to take the whole log but still for “firewood” lol

Back in the 80's and 90's my neighbor and a buddy would go cut firewood on USFS land, and they'd each bring their own wood truck. Each truck had provisions on the front bumper for a crane-like setup that utilized the truck's winch, so they'd cut 10' logs and load each other's truck full of 'em. Pretty soon folks were complaining to the FS that "those guys were getting too much wood with each load". The FS guy would respond that, "They have a permit and they're only taking the correct logs, if they can do it better than you that's not their fault."

Thems the rules. I think it has to be under 6 feet long. They don’t want you to have a chance of possibly using that wood to make something out of. Heaven forbid you ever might need more than 100 feet of cable to get a log to the road that you are supposed to stay on…
I did sneak a log bed and a couple of night stands out on a post and pole permit, one time. Had to source the live edge slabs separately.
