If you want I could get you some pictures of the truck and how it’s setup.

That would be cool. I’ve seen some nice flatbeds with plenty of boxes that sound similar to what you are talking about. They look pretty versatile.

That pic reminds me. Those of you who fight fires, do you think military surplus trucks with more Offroad capability (and a lot less expensive) would be better than the street trucks with a driving front axle added on?

Yes and no - it depends on the application. Departments and agencies (such as CalFire) in your area are "hybrid", meaning they do wildland and structural fire. So their engines have to be set-up to work in both
urban and wildland environments. Some of the wildland agencies up here use converted military rigs for off-road operations, and they work fine in that capacity. Another factor is that federal agencies (and some states)
routinely send resources to large fires in neighboring states or multiple states away, so the trucks have to be suitable for long over-the-road trips.

The longest trips I've driven to large fires were from western Oregon to eastern New Mexico and western Oregon to south-central South Dakota. We did use Deuce-and-a-halfs on large fires when I was in western
Wyoming and they were great for hauling people and equipment there.
