Unfortunately getting the winds now as we speak.
Sorry to hear this Mike. Hope you and family stay safeUnfortunately getting the winds now as we speak.
I hope so. A new fire started about 35 miles away. No air help due to wind, and ground access is difficult.Sorry to hear this Mike. Hope you and family stay safe
The light in Portland turned yellow around 5 and then it got dark early. I suppose tomorrow will be red sky turning to black sky almost like night. Not as bad as when St Helens blew, but still scary nasty with all of the other problems Portland has, massive homeless, massive no police response blatent theft crime, and riots.
It's pretty bad all over and as you say, expected to get worse before better. I had heard that Estacada was burning. I dunno how true that is, however they were on a stage 3 evacuation. Plenty of horse trailers and nice, not homeless, motorhomes and trailers were finding places to sit it out. Add one were at the Town Center, whose mall lot has plenty of open room. I am 1 mile from Clackamas Co. So am watching kinda carefully. I'm pretty sure Milwaukie and Portland are safe, but still, these fires have a spread so fast and we are 3 days from any possible weather relief. That Riverside fire on Mt. Hood is already cresting 100,000 acres - so it's going to get worse for a bit before it gets better. The weather is supposed to start turning this weekend though to cooler and milder.
This pic struck a nerve with me...awesome pic and clarity...it’s just an ol’ fighting Marine thing on my end. If that ain’t a damn firefight, I don’t know what is. You can’t sling lead at the problem in front of you...

Hand salute to these men and women when faced with such a fight!
Talk about earning your damn keep...
I was wondering why the smoke was so black...I don’t know no different on my end. I ain’t never seen nothing like this. I hope these brave, hard-charging men and women can get this under control.Where they're at is some of the nastiest fire fighting ever. I've been down there several times, mainly with the Hotshot crews. That fuel type is southern interior Chaparral with a Chamise understory. Chamise is dense
scrub wood with a thick, slow-running sap that burns hot. That's one reason the smoke is so black in that picture. Chaparral is a hard woody brush that's usually 6-12' tall and has long, stiff thorns which makes it difficult
to work with.
