Just curious...
Obviously never on a saw you would sell for a customer, but if you jbwelded the damage above the transfer port, the rings should span it, would it hold up at all for a personal saw?

Opinions?

So what was the problem? Did something on the AM piston fail? I thought there would be a chunk out of it or something. Or was it the 1.2mm rings on a 1.5mm piston? Not sure what happened is all
Yeah Kev. I believe the .35mm difference in thickness let the ring rock and twist. If you look carefully, it appears that the edges of the rings in some places are hammered down.

Wash pattern looks great to me. Symmetrical but slightly offset. Any reason it's offset on this jug?
The arrow is offset. It's at 1 or 2 o'clock. I turned it because the offset arrow woulda alerted that it was AM. I wasn't smart enough to be alerted.

If it wasn't so wide, one could conceivably smooth the edges with a diamond ball and run it.

I doubt JB would hold up at all.

Please don't take this the wrong way. There's only one way to ask the question though, and it makes me sound like the dick (sorry Al, sorry Dallas ), which certainly isn't my intention. I'm not a fan boy of anything AM, btw. Some things are good and some arent.

Why are we beating up on an AM piston? It was quoted to be in pristine used shape. I've seen lots of oem pistons that used 1.2mm rings, 1.5mm rings, and some that were less than 1mm. You just mistakenly used 1.2mm rings on a 1.5 piston, correct? The piston itself would have probably been fine with the correct rings on it ?

Ok lets move on from this saw, can I have the recipe for your sauce.....looks so good especially the second picture (you put hot sauce in?)lol. Sorry guys haven't eaten all day, but I did sell two saws for $120 when I bought 3 for $20. (Cheapo saws obviously) but the profits were there.

What do you do in this case, do you now have to eat the new jug and piston to get this up for the customer?

You are right. I made the error.

The reason I did was because 036 pistons, at least Meteor and oem, use 1.2mm rings. I've never seen a double 1.5mm ring on an 036.

Lmao im sorry. At least you have a hell of a sense of humor. Thats the only thing you can have in this case I suppose. But you and others did learn from it so thats priceless, and I got your recipe!!!! Yeahhhhhh. (do i put the cabers in whole or mince them in a mismatched piston first)

Ahh. Thanks for understanding. I didn't realize those from the oem and meteor were always the same size. It seems like every saw I've been into lately had different rings in it than the piston I ordered for it. I caught myself doing the same thing as you. Now I just measure them all. Especially with the whole husky 346 350 353 /epa debacle. Can't tell anything in that series without measuring

I didn't know any of that... wow!
Could have been me. I won't forget it now!

Yeah crappy deal here. Order a new set of cabers for an 036 and a crappy AM piston uses 1.5 mm rings. Thanks for sharing Al, this would be a very easy thing to over look. It never would have crossed my mind, especially if the piston was thought to be OEM.

Well, nevertheless you got some more grinding practice in. :D
