Wow Steve you went above and byond making it better then right. Was the base mess then .300 thick? Was the saw very high compression on the last cylinder?
Todays cut is a re-report. @huskytime 1100cd that I did for him a while ago blew his top. Not sure 100% why this happened other than chit happens. After all this thing was made when I was in kindergarten. So I languished for a while trying to find good replacement parts of decent quality and reasonable price. Figured I spent enough time I knew where there was a really good 1100cd cylinder from 1973, on my saw. So I took it off and worked it over, much differently this time around, I'd have to say to be honest it lost a frog hair of snap, but it is still well within the original goals set to begin with and doubt it will even be noticed. Top cover was farmed as well and as a peace offering the NOS air filter cover that was on my saw, even though it didn't break. I also added a Stihl style chain catcher to the bucking spike for safety's sake. All that is left is to ask for Chris's forgiveness, I wish I could point the finger at something and say that was it, but really can't. I did cut the base so I'll take the rap.

Bought this little 346 knowing the cilynder probably had some problems. Opened it up to find 3 aluminum smears left after it had been cleaned up and sold as “rebuilt” to another member here. View attachment 179619View attachment 179620View attachment 179621

Base gasket delete brought squish down from .0455 to .027 muffler mod done and gasket re-indexed.
Oh the streaks felt smooth but it was still in there. The grey should have been a dead give away. It had so scratches in the playing but I’m going to go ahead and run it and see how it does. I should have gotten pics after I got done.Good catch and job!
Oddly enough I just re-cleaned a cylinder just last night that had been just done by a member and not quite all the way.
Guys, you need to feel in there with your finger until nothing can be felt, should be smooth like baby's bottom, not Grandma's. Lol

Unfortunately in my line of work I’ve seen to many of those and that cylinder looked more like grandpas than granny’s! (Seen too many of those as well)Grandma's ass eh?
Grandma's ass eh?
Feels like wrinkles, what should I liken it to instead?
Fixed it for yaFeels like wrinkles and looks like poop streaks ,what should I liken it to instead?
Took just a frog hair out of the band
had ample squish at .028"
As this was supposed to be a low compression build for milling
It has a good size combustion chamber

Any evidence that the piston was slapping the top?
I guess you made it too powerful.
