The 357/272 build is a very good stock appearing race saw build and it doesn't suffer being at the bottom of the 5 cube class size range. There's absolutely nothing "peaky" about the powerband with that little case volume, it's very strong. I'd never use it for cutting firewood or any other work purpose because I don't think the undersized crankshaft would last very long.
The 372/390 is more challenging because of the 12mm crank rod end from the 372 being too small to fit the 13mm piston pin and bearing. A member here has built one. He milled out the rod end to fit the 390, but that left it weakened and didn't last long. I suppose one could take the crankshaft and swap out the rods to the correct size or maybe even kill two birds with one stone and do a stroker.
I would be very interested to see a 390 with a 3120 stroke.
