I have and on a ported saw the bigger the more it gains. That's why the saws I own are very loud.
Stock saws I'm not sure but it's probably the same

Wide open loaded is between 9200 and 10 k depending in how hard i push the handlebars ,the sweet spot for smooth boards seems to be 7200 ,when i piss revved the saw no load and shut it off tach said 12900 ,i had to lean the carb after took the dual cover off it lost almost 1000 rpm doing that ,has stock baffle box inside and little factory opening now ,sounds like a sewing machine, still has plenty of power also for milling
Makes sense, I've swapped a modded muffler for a stock one on a few of my saws, they definitely slowed down with the stock muffler, they are much quieter, and needed to be leaned. The needing less fuel means they were using less air. Less fuel and less air is less power

When @Mastermind did his first 661 thread ,on the stock saw i do not believe he got any gains on that particular saw opening up the muffler except noise ,timed cuts were real close .

Not to start an oil thread here ,but i tried this once before and the paint burned off the muffler cover right away running one of the bike oils at 32 to 1 so i put the dual port cover back on to let some heat out ,the saber 40 to 1 the paint still is all on the stock cover after 3 or so hours on the hour meter totally choked up muffler .

I run my saws as follows:
- Sachs-Dolmar 105 & Dolmar PS-6400 - stock mufflers
- Sachs-Dolmar 108 & Dolmar PS-7900 - lightly modified mufflers, added breathing area without impacting the "stock look", these saws gained a lot of (subjective) noise

The Sachs-Dolmar 105 & 108 share identical mufflers, as do the Dolmar PS-6400 & PS-7900.
That been said I was considering test muffler swaps stock/modded/stock but I have two issues:
1) I have limited free time
2) I have no firewood to cut whatsoever (I overdid firewood processing last year and as it seems may not get any this year :( )

I have a cheap laser thermometer inbound which I purchased to track down the reason for the vapor lock my PS-7900 is prone to while my PS-6400 is not.
It could come handy to verify heat dissipation of stock & modded mufflers.

It is only subjectively, but I think my PS-7900 likes her current modded muffler setup.
I am not so sure about the Sachs-Dolmar 108 and her modded muffler, I didn't notice any subjective gains after modding it.

A stock saws port timing plays a role in how much it will gain from a muffler mod, also how restricted it is from the factory.

The 066 front cover added to my bone stock gasket in place work saw 660 did improve RPM about 800-1K. It did lose a lot of heat and that was the main goal. -100* was the new temp gun reading on the muffler near the head. The exhaust fumes got worse as expected. Was it worth it, IMO yes. Eats a bit more petrol.
