The weird thing is, there are still tons of mom and pop Stihl dealers here in Kentucky. Way more than Husky and Echo combined. Our RK power equipment manager says that most Stihl dealers here are supplied by a particular distributor (whose name I don't recall) that is one of the largest in the world and generally does a very good job of supporting dealers regardless of how large they are. He is interviewing for a regional rep job with them, and I think would do a fantasitic job with it.

It‘s totally the opposite here, more Husqvarna and Echo dealers by smaller family operated businesses. Stihl is predominately located in a hardware store. Some with large displays and others with the bare minimum. Difficult to obtain even common parts at times. Must be a regional thing.

I bet a dollar to a donut if you dig into it a bit you will find that distributor is not an independent and is owned by Stihl corporate.

It's beyond that. The industry is gone. Look at anything that needs aluminum for example, the companies who make it are gone. The US doesn't even mine the magnesium to make aluminum anymore, so yes, any American small engine company has to buy it from other countries, at HUGE extra cost.

Electric is cheaper to make(plastic) and needs less Aluminium... expect it for some equipment, but it doesn't work for everything.

I think US companies are forced to buy it from China right now because the US doesn't make it anymore, and its got a 30% tarrif to prevent companies here from buying materials there. There is no being competitive right now on many "products', including farm machines we need to make food.

If Stihl had a shot in places like San-Fran, they have to pay more for their emplyees, more for their materials, and tolerate people shoplifting 50 at a time.... of course they are leaving. Follow the industry, and that's not here anymore, for a lot of things.

It is what it is now, and can't be fixed quickly. adapt?

I take it you have not looked at recent car prices.

24 GMC Sierra EV.

I paid 1 one hundredth of that for my daily drive, and 02’ Silverado 4x4 3/4 ton. 😵‍💫 that thing is ugly and over priced
The problem is Stihl has abandoned the brick and mortar servicing dealers. I am 40 miles down river from a metro area of 250,000 folks and in that area there is not one single brick and mortar servicing dealer. All there is are Deere and box stores.
I’m lucky enough to have one in my town

Wow. We always paid a lot for chain over here but 72 link of 36RS is $55 Australian. 1 AUD = 0.68c USD

100FT Stihl rolls are now listed at $975 AUD = $655 USD.

I'm lucky to have a local independent dealer that carries Oregon chain for a reasonable price so I tend to use that these days. It's not my favourite chain but at 40% of the price of Stihl chains, its good enough for me

Sadly lots of things have changed here in the USA when Stihl crawled in bed with John Deere and the box store retailers.

I should take my John Deere saw into the dealer someday and see what they say.

They sell and service JD tractors, and this isn't a Stihl.

Better than 100k for one you can't hardly fix yourself that comes with every bell, whistle, and gov/ad company spy microphone.
I never said that. I pointed out the pitfall of money pits. I bought (4) homes for a total of $214.700 that brought in $38,400 per year. I do not see myself paying $100,00 on a truck and yes I can work on homes and trucks. :D

I do not do money pits though. Your mileage will vary.
