The TS500i has a throttle position sensor and a cable to a butterfly just after the air filter.

Geez, That answers that.
I cant seem to keep up with this thread, always one step behind...

But m-tronic definitely has no throttle position sensor?

The TS500i has only a throttle, Injection pump, injector and a crankcase Temp/Pressure Sensor.
It only has rpms and the case pressure to calculate the throttle position.
The Pressure is about 11 psi.

Inside of the looks like a carb without the venturi/throttle.

Ok, finally dug up some useful info on the stihl site and you are correct. No TPS.

Stihl actually says the pressure/temp sensor performs the more or less equivelent to a mass flow sensor and TPS, along with the RPM that is calculated from a crank position sensor on the generator.

I can see on a 2 stroke where this can work, again I was narrow in my thinking and stuck on comparing to 4 stroke based injection.

Not as simple as m-tronic, that's for sure...

When you look at what Stihl says M Tronic does, and compare it to what some say it does, there are discrepancies.

As a result, I take some salt now and then, grains that is!!!

My 362 C took time to adjust to 2 different things. When I got it back from Randy I changed the mix oil and ratio, it did not like it for a while. Also, when I advanced the timing on it, it took a while to "like it", but then it did.

Just Sayin!!!

So one saying yes to TPS and one saying no on ts500i.
Do we have a third opinion tie breaker?
No TPS on the TS500i. Fourth tie breaker....
As to the multi sensor in the bottom of the crankcase on the TS500i;
I think they are Roswell adapted technology.... lol
I have never seen one fail out of the hundreds I have serviced.
The pressure the injector bypasses is around 2.5 to 3psi.
As to the durability of the TS500i crankshafts, I've seen a few fail with radial play on the big end from contamination. The rods have 1119 series stamped on them, so I'm assuming that rod fit the design perameters.

Even if it had direct injection, it still needs to get its air through the crank case. On a fixed orientation motor the bearings could be in an oil bath... but not a chainsaw that is slung all over the place.
Can't think of a way to lube it without mix going through the case.

How is Makita doing it on their 4 strokes?

Found out today rumor has it from my buddy at local stihl dealer when this saw comes out that the talk coming from stihl is that the 441c or the 461 one will be going bye bye. He seems to think it will be 461 since 462 is coming and the 441c was just redesigned.

I don't think the 441 was redesigned, and I'm sure stihl still has plenty of 461 stock...but...if I was a betting man I would say this unit will sit between the 462 and the 661 until....

The 441c was redesigned according to what he told me,maybe he meant from 441 to 441c.i know stihl had run out of 441c at one time and there was a shortage. Anyway the 500i is 72cc. Saw and the 441c or 461 is going away like i stated in prev.post being 500i is coming and 462 according to stihl.my buddy dont think it will be 441c.

Despite who your buddy is he only knows what the official line at Stihl USA is. We have proven time and time again that the combined knowledge of the forum and its members in different locations around the world know more than anyone at a Stihl dealer does or is going to share (except those that are members here).

The MS441CM was not recently redesigned, it continued for sale in many markets (including Canada) unabated while not available in the USA. What is different about the USA? Three other letters EPA. I am certain that sale of the 441 was halted for a while to help Stihl's EPA score for the year.

With the MS462 coming the 441 will be toast. I expect to see the 461 stick around a little longer as there are many diehard screw driver users that Stihl doesn't want to fully alienate (yet). The MS500i will stand on its own for a while without anything else being discontinued as there is nothing else in the range of similar size.
