They had both. Nikasil is always yellow tinted. Chrome is silver or blue tinted
I thought I read some where that the earlier 046s had chrome. Like the verry first ones. I might be remembering wrong

Could be. Most now are chrome. I’ve also seen various mixed Stihl cylinders through the years that were Nikasil

Another. I’m still hunting for a boot pic. Know I posted one.

Maybe someone has both boots and can show a pic. The 361 boot is quite necked down. Some swear it works just as well with less work.

@Roadfxr , have u run yours much?

Has anyone tried an 056 boot? It should have a bigger passage and an ear for the oem impulse line.

Probably too big for the intake port and the carburetor. I was building a 361 firewood class race saw and used an 066 boot and carburetor. Intake flange was matched to the boot and I used an external impulse. It ran considerably slower than stock.

Could be, I thought I had one on hand but I think I must've given it to my neighbor for his 056's. I'll try to find one and compare it to the 1128 boot I've got.

A firewood class race saw? I've not built any race saws yet so I don't know the lingo. Does that mean it's just a fast smaller size saw? Like 25cc to 50?

Firewood saw races use different cc classes than traditional races. Normally they go by 3 cubic inch (45cc), 4 cube, 5, 6…..
Firewood saw races go maybe Every 10cc. 361 is I think 59.5cc
