A little before the 661 came out 660's were going cheap as everyone thought the new 661 was going to change the way the earth turned. That's when I bought my 660 out of the AS T/post. Less than 5 tanks ran through it, new 25" ES and used 36" ES....$650. He was asking $750 but no one wanted it so I made an offer.

Well I'll see if they have it tomorrow yet and see if they'll come down to about 450.00 even though 500.00 probably ain't bad . Cheaper it is the happier my wife will be.. ;)

Don't be afraid to offer less. Try $400 cash and see what they say. I've found that larger saws can be better deals at pawn shops since there's a limited number of customers. The smaller saws they sell at about new retail prices usually.
As far as pricing, around here an average 066/MS660 is $600 PHO then add for the bar. If the bar/chain is nice, that adds value. If the bar is worn, ignore it and buy it for the powerhead. Have the pawn shop people start and run it for you. If they can't get it going, then a lower price is in order. By the way, these saws flood easily so if it doesn't pop in about 3/4 pulls, take the choke off by moving the lever up one click (just like your 029)

I'll give that a try although there asking price was 550.00 . That pawn shop always comes down 1 time and then I always say that's too high and they knock another 20 bucks off

You need to find some pics on here of someone's pile of a few hundred saws and then say, "see? I'm way behind in my accumulation".

Well, then maybe you should sell another saw and let the girl get some shoes!
lol . Maybe she'll start saying a pair of shoes every time I get a saw. But she has the opportunity if she wants to buy em but she don't so it's her problem . :)

You definitely won't lose any money on a $500 dollar 660. You will be happy with it.

The stock MS 660 will run anything from 20" to 36". Most loggers run 30" to 36". A few have even dabbled with 41" bars, but I think that's pushing it.

41" 404" skip is alright if you keep it out of the dirt, but it's a touché tip heavy.
Of course, mine are Ported.

A muffler modded 66 is good for 36" 3/8" if the bar oil hole has been opened up.

A Sharp chain is a requirement with any combo.

Sadly good deals don't wait for hesitant buyers. To be a good trader one must know the market and value of things so they can move fast when a good deals presents itself. Now at least you know a 660's value and will know what to pay when a tidy one comes up. Sit tight & you will find another. The 661 has increased demand and price on the 660 as sawyers 'perceive' the 660 to be dead reliable and easy to fix.
