Well, the 361 wasn't what I remembered they were. I guess I got used to my 440 mag! A coworker needed a firewood saw so I sold it to him for what I had in it. A vendor I use is a Stihl dealer and had a returned 461 that hadn't even been in wood yet! The story is that a woman bought it for her husband said it was TOO BIG. Well, with the cash and a little horse trading on a gun I had and he wanted, we came to an agreement and I have a new 461. I got it yesterday then had to leave town this morning. I also purchased a Oregon 520 from a guy he told me about that was closing his small engine shop. I feel I got a good deal on both. I have about $650 in the saw if you factor what I paid for the rifle and I paid $250 for the grinder.

IMO the MS461 is a VG saw, and shares a lot of parts with the MS460. However, to meet emissions 461s run hotter, so I would immediately remove the carb limiters, put a dp muff cover on it, and run it at 40:1 instead of 50:1.

Usually after pulling the limiters and installing the dp cover, I start with the Lo 3/4 out and the Hi about 1 1/8 out.

Do those things and I believe you will have a long lasting, strong running saw.

Careful about sharing carb settings.
Those should be determined by geography & atmospheric conditions i.e.; temperature, humidity, altitude etc....

Agreed, but I did say as a "start" point, and if the saw was Hi limited to 3/4 before the dp cover ... I tried to keep it safe.

I didnt like my stock 461 AT ALL,it was pretty gutless and my Invincable 044 killed it.
Then I put a DP muffler on it and it came alive, much better saw.

Dual port cover didnt make a world of difference power wise on either of my 461s..idk...throttle response was better though.

I put 460 coils on them.

I really do like my 461s.

I wish Laslabjohn was in need of a old heavy ***** & liked horse trading: cause I just so happen to have quite the Hoss.
I've had 2 of them. They are a great saw. I just don't like how they feel to work with them.
