The rear trigger handle is broken where the top part of the bar attaches. They have had a go at welding it by the looks.
Currently held together by a hose clamp.
The pin that I think is the throttle lock is broken too.

Needs replacing!

WP_20160525_20_01_51_Pro.jpg

Bottom part of the rear handle seems to be busted too.
I think they sell them at the local hardware store so should be easy to fix.

Motor looks and feels good. makes 135 psi.
I wasn't expecting 180 psi but its better than 100 :)
My 039 only made 140 psi after a rebuild and it went like stink.

WP_20160525_20_09_53_Pro.jpg

Its MUCH cleaner than the 076 I just stripped which had 2 tonnes of oil and dirt under the covers.
If I can get all the bits to fix the damage, I will look at sand blasting the part and re-finishing

It will need new dawg spikes too, someone has welded chunks of settl onto them to make them stronger or repair them.

She is a farm saw, that's for sure!

Here is my heart flet appeal to members far and wide to PLEASE HELP MAKE THIS SAW RUN AGAIN.

If you have some of the broken bits sitting in a box I would be happy to exchange for some cash and pay postage.

I need:

Top cover
Bar/Handle
Front AV mount
Rear handle/trigger assembly, top and bottom part.

I am off to start scouring the internet

I went and dug through the box of bits that came with the saw.
I found the missing part that answers the front AV mounting question.

WP_20160525_21_39_00_Pro.jpg

Also found 2 other rear AV mounts to match the 3rd one that is on the saw, all broken in the same spot

WP_20160525_21_41_17_Pro.jpg

But then I found this.
The original booklet that came with the saw when new.

WP_20160525_21_41_30_Pro.jpg

Its a user manual and a parts manual

WP_20160525_21_41_46_Pro.jpg

It has the date of purchase in it.
1st November 1986

The serial number on the saw is 4320761

This has to be worth something ???

Was interested to see the 090G is only 106cc

I found this mob that sell these parts that I need:
http://shop.saegenspezi.de/rear-handle-fits-Stihl-070AV-090AV-070-090-AV

Does anyone know if these are a Chinese copy that can be had cheaper....... I cant find them anywhere else.
I don't know where their stuff comes from but I have used them a few times. Great price and parts have been ok. All was posted from Germany. They are on eBay too and have a great laid out store there.

Its currently all sitting in a box in bits.
Its winter and the garage is cold and I hate the cold.
I have several others I am building as well that I need done for sale that are less work than this one.

At this stage I have found an issue with damage to the spark plug mount on the cylinder, which will need to be repaired.
The handle bar is in really bad shape and will need some serious work.
I have ordered replacement rear handle sections from Germany.
I have all new gaskets, a new base plate and other bits and pieces.
Everything has been cleaned, and the bearings feel really good so I wont be breaking it down that far.

When I have all the bits I need, I will get it back together, try and repair the handle bar etc.

Its going to take a while so I will add into this thread as I do bits.

I almost just advertised it as a box of parts but decided to take on the challenge.

Awesome! They are one of my favorite saws to watch being built.

The current state of affairs.

WP_20160630_20_02_37_Pro.jpg

Clutch and chain sprocket look near new but I am still searching for an OEM top cover.

I am really resisting getting a Chinese one, even if it means leaving the broken OEM one on there.

I have all the bits on the way to make it a good running saw.

Also, I REALLY want to run it.

Probably my main motivation is to just make it great again.
090's are not like MS170's with 3 on every corner, and to see it melt away as parts would be a tad upsetting.
I feel a bit of obligation as a Stihl lover and saw enthusiast to bring it back.

I plan to cut the mangled welded section of the handle bar that runs back to the trigger off, straiten up the front section, fill all the dint's with body filler to make it round and put some handle rubber back on.
Then bend up a new top bar, cut to length and weld it on....... probably do that before the rubber goes on but you get the picture.

I can make a new bracket for the front lower AV mount but I am not really sure how I am going to attach it to the rubber mount.
I am thinking I may need to drill through and bolt it on with glue to help. I still need to think harder on this one.

It will happen.

I have a question.

Does the 090 run a standard spark plug as found in most other saw models?
It had a really tall one in it, looked like a car spark plug or something?

Just be patient and wait you still only got $200 into it? Parts will come at the right price someday. More in oz than you might think. I know of 6 in my area off a small country town..

For want of a better description, like a cars :)

Have a nice 090av myself to get in a trade for timber in a week or 2.

I have un-tapped area's to chase saws in. but I need to sell what I have to pay off some debts and get some money in the bank to go chase them.

At this stage, this 090 will end up very usable as I dont do things in halves to just flip.

I cant!

I have a little angle on both shoulders saying.... do it properly.

I could dodgy up lots of saws and make a bit more money from them, but I cant do that. I cannot bring myself to advertise them until I know they are at the standard that I would use them at myself.

This one will be the same
