I am working on replacing the ground and short circuit wires as they both have bare spots. I was also going to replace to hook on spring(hooks in the plug wire then to the plug up in side the boot) Well the plug wire broke. Leaving it to short now. I dont think these older ignition modules are like the new one where they just thread in. Because I broke the wire again at the module. Dug and picked all the old wire out. Got new wire in.

Now what to use to glue or epoxy the wire back in? It does fit tight and secure. But i dont want to have spark issues.

Some older Stihl coils I’ve messed with had a different material plug wire that really is a bear to get out. I’ve run into this on 026s and older models. I always assumed heat caused the issue but I’m not positive. Also pretty sure it was OEM...
I pick all the material out (usually disintegrated and impossible to twist out) and screw on the new lead like usual. A dab of Hondabond or the like, the rubber cap piece, and you’re probably good to go.
On newer saws with clean threads I don’t use anything and haven’t had a lead come off yet.

Got the plug wire installed. I used some seal all as it gets stiff, but is pretty easy to cut off if need be. Also installed the Grommet 0000 989 1010 over the plug wire to the module. IMG_20210214_211634.jpg

Got the short circuit wire replaced in the factory ring terminal. Also added a bit of silicone over the screw to the trigger. Not sure it is necessary but it had it on there when i took it apart.

Didn't order the right insulating hose to go over the short circuit and ground wire. 1124 442 0400. I got the one for an 880 which is shorter.

Made some head way today. Got the recoil squared away. Metal tag installed. A center punch I feel works the best for spreading the rivets. I use graphite on the starter post and inside the rope rotor. I also spray down the recoil spring with graphite. This is what I use from Napa https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/MCR1413

Got started on the case halves as well. Run a tap and chase all the threaded holes. Sandpaper on a piece of plate glass for the gasket surfaces and bar pad. I also finally got to use the tap and drill bit set @Wilhelm sent me a few years ago.

No d handle for me. I bought one years ago tried it on one saw and promptly took it back off.

I wonder if using a d handle is like when the older guys I use to work with, would tell me you are going to hurt your back picking that wood up. Wait till your mid 30's then you will see. Sure enough they were right bulged a disc 2 years ago.

So, instead of keeping them pristine You ruined those taps on a Stihl?!

I understand. I thought you were referring to the fuel line I used.
