I know. Most people out there only expect a year in use and then a year as backup. So they don't mind that junk pile
They do here, everybody gave up on them because they wouldn't stay together.
Hard wood is hard on them.

Real low rakers and bore cutting is hard on any of them
Especially those.
It's very rare to get one in the shop to fix and it not be the pto side bearing pocket.
The 046 I own has it beat out.
I would like to have a good set for mine but can't find any so I'll just get am ones

A 460 with a 36" bar will last about as long as a fart in a whirlwind.
It will eat mounts until it pounds the pto bearing pocket out in the case.

also won't oil it or pull it worth a crap.

I guees if you had to you could but I wouldn't much.

The bigger saws are built to handle the long bar and not only because of more power but because the crank and bearings are much larger and the power head is heavy enough to balance it.

I'm not saying you can't but there's other saws made for that.
Funny, I've ran my 460 with an 8 tooth sprocket and 36" bar for years with no problems. Matter of fact some are sold with 36" bar's. lol

Different worlds from where I am to you.
I couldn't imagine cutting a white oak or a hickory that was big enough to need a 36" bar with a stock 460 or even a ported one.

Seems most of us west coast guys run long bars on smaller saws. 460's with a 32 or 36 is normal around here....heck a 440 with a 32 is standard around here.....we sold 441's with 32's. None of the 460's or 461's we've sold with 36's have come back with any issues yet either. I've cut tons of hard wood with my 460 and never had any issues yet. All of the loggers I know run 36's on 461's. The 661's get 36's or 42's.

FWIW, The Echo CS-590's are sold with 20's and 24's. lol

Both my ported 460s will pull a 36" bar through Oak w/o any problem at all, and are great for bucking it. I just don't like how it balances (for felling) with the 36". Even though it is a light bar, it is kinda nose heavy.

But bucking big Oak is no problem!

Everybody is a logger here and all of them have tried the 460's and gave up on them for falling and not because they can't run a 24" bar,it's because a 660 will last twice as long doing the same job.

I work on loggers saws everyday and for the last 20 years I've either been in the woods or worked on there saws,I probably know 25 or 30 loggers and not a single one uses anything other than a 90cc to cut down with.
Bucking on the landing can be done with any saw but for falling they won't last.

My first year 046 manual and my 09 460 manual state max bar length at 28" and that's still to long to balance one the way I like them.
There is a few guys running 7910 falling and 461's on the landing.

I have 2 28" lw bars but never tried one on a 46.
I don't like a nose heavy saw.

OK, Jake, I give up. Time for me to buy an Elastostart handle and install it on my 064. The original pull-cord handle, coupled with the engine's compression, is giving my right shoulder and the fingers on my right hand the fits (or should I say the pits).

Would the elastostart stand up to the compression of a 064?, thinking of fitting to my 044 and 064.
