Acquired this 064 project a while back. Long story short, it needs a topend, but that's for another day. This one has an extended clutch coer via a piece of rubberish fabric riveted to the bottom of the cover and 3/4 wrap. Did they make the 064 in a "west coast" version? Also it's got the non hd filter setup, any thoughts on that? Is it fine, or do I change it over to an hd setup or just go velocity stack. Here are a few pics.

The 064 is one of the greatest saw ever made IMHO, but the stock filter is one of the worst I ever see. If I cut fir or something with thick bark, I have to clean the filter every tank. You can even use the HD2 with the right parts, it's a gret feature on this saw!

That one (Whiskers) is a very early one and it was originally sold in Canada- if you look at the yellow warning label on the chain brake handle, you'll see the code referencing chainsaws from the Canadian Safety Administration group. The 064s sold in Canada at that time all came with the low-profile filter system since it did better in freezing temps. That one looks pristine and all stock.

My dad bought two new 064s as soon as they hit the shelves in late 1985 but his came with the early HD filter system. He was cutting timber at the time and the 064 was the new saw everyone was talking about.

Thanks for the info, your wealth of knowledge is incredible. As for the saw being the cats meow, looks like some things change and some thing just stay the same.

Any issue with the meteor 064 piston offering? The cylinder may end up being toast also, unfortunately this is going to be s late fall project. I just like to start hoarding the parts I'm going to need.

Oh, also, what are the last 4 numbers on the part number on the chain brake lever?

The 9105 fits with the 3/4 wrap. I was under the impression you had to have a spacer for the 660 handle

The 660 3/4 wrap should bolt up without any mods. I personally don't like the angle of the original 3/4 wraps that came on the early 064/066 saws.image.jpg
