Whoa! Thats a test for a saw too! It's not much smoother than what square is giving me. Just be longer cuts and more fuel used. I timed a cut yesterday and it was 4 minutes 20 seconds for 5' long. 2 cuts per tank on the 046 so in 8-9 minutes you burn a whole tank.
With the ported 390 last year I milled some that was 2 tanks per cut. 5' and it ran out of fuel in the middle of the cut. First time I had done that in a long time. Saw acted funny for a second and died. I thought I killed it. Opened the tank and nothing but fumes.Whoa! Thats a test for a saw too!

Ronnie is sending me some. I have almost half the log left to mill. I'll grab another gallon of gas to mix with it tomorrow or Wednesday. Supposed to go drop some trees on Wednesday as well.Ive switched to efree 87. I see no sense in wasting money. Im likin hp2 pretty good
I don't think I'm anywhere near to mastering it either. I've gotten it to where it cuts very well ,and last well to . But, you can only learn so much reading and looking at pictures . No one around here uses square ,so there is no way to judge how much progress I'm making . I'd love nothing better that to sit down with a few guys that do this well ,and just watch and learn .I've had mine for three years and don't have it mastered! I can make good chains but I think I'm leaving a lot on the table
Northern Butler county . 50-60 miles north of Pittsburgh .What part of PA Nixon?
Round? Thought that stuff was hogwash?I am getting a nice finish with full comp chisel .404 round ground at 10 and zero on the usg .
I have been testing some round ,i have not got it to cut as good as my square yet though ,i am getting nice chips off it thoughRound? Thought that stuff was hogwash?![]()
My square chips are a bit better I think. Square definitely lasts longer for me. As in, once the square feels a bit dull, it cuts like my round. Definitely more grabby than round. Raker height should probably be 5-7 thou less with roundI have been testing some round ,i have not got it to cut as good as my square yet though ,i am getting nice chips off it though
