If you see anything you need let me know.
The saw is still 2.5hrs away from here.
Not sure when I'll be able to retrieve it.
The guy that has it owns a hunting camp a few miles from our camp.
Rifle season is still 3 weeks away. So.....at best.....I wont have it for at least 3 weeks.

I have a Mac in my shop that my dad built in 1974: CP-125 chassis with a 797 Super motor that's bored .030" over. Left-hand start, SP-125 clutch and drum, CP-style "hockey puck" muffler, and H&S 8" dawg. It was a log-busting machine back in the day with a 60" bar and chain. A couple winters ago I rebuilt the short block with new bearings and seals, and a thin-ring .030" over piston from Vince Hughes. I'm hoping to do the chassis restoration this winter.
What a saw! I bet that saw won't ever leave the stable. I think rummaging round your shop would cure cad.

463934D4-08E3-40B7-9D4A-111E8B70A9F8.jpeg Well......got a closer look at the 81 tonight....
Muffler bolts are so rotten, they do nothing but strip out.
Gonna have to drill em.
I’m thinking I might just continue my search for a little nicer specimen.
She’s rough fellas.

Depending on what it needs, I think with a good cleanup that saw will look pretty good. It may be no showpiece, but it has more original paint then a lot of others.

Agreed. But if you decide to send it on down the road and look for a nicer one, I'd certainly be interested in it as a project.

Great saws Jeremy. I'm bringing an SP80 to the NY GTG.
I've decided to leave my modern saws at home as I don't have any.

The 81 is supposed to have more power. My 80 is pretty stout. The rotten muffler ducts seem to be fairly easy to find reasonably. Not so much for the muffler covers.
Apparently the 81 had divider in the transfer port like every other saw while the 80 was one big chute.

The fuel tanks are put together with some kind of sealer which can give up over time as mine just has. Going to buy some Red Kote sealer when I'm down in NY.

Well work fixing up.

Super pro!!! That's a saw I've been looking for, I got my pro mac 700 for 10 bucks and it runs. Gonna take a trip to chainsaw Jim as soon as I have extra funds!

Hope to see you at the NY GTG. Bringing the little red critter you gave me.

Congrats on your beautiful little girl!

Oxide that forms on aluminum often because of being stored on a concrete floor .Concrete uses a form of blue clay which contains alumina which is a few atomic numbers away from aluminum which causes electrolysis ,often called galvanic action or reaction .In other words the metal of the saw tries to become part of the concrete .--not good

On the above this is why Stihl for example e-coats the inside of the crankcases .BTW magnesium alloy is also a "sacrificial " metal .

I have been successful cleaning up tanks with a handful of small nuts, shake them around good, I even made a fixture to turn then in the lathe and let them tumble for an hour or two. Red Kote when it's reasonably clean and your good to go. A bit of sand blasting can help as well.
