Hello Fellow Solo fans! I have a new to me 642 to show off. Got it running yesterday. It’s badged a 635 but it has a 58mm bore. It was a nice surprise. I had wanted a 642 but they never come up for sale. My good running , ugly as dog butt 635 now has a handsome big brother.

This is my 635. I had plans to use the top end on the pretty saw until I found the other was usable and BIGGER. Now I guess I’ll put her back together and put back up on the shelf.

I’ll run the pretty one some today then return them both to their place on the shelf. I’ll try and punch out a video on the 642 soon. It’s a good running saw.

Jim, thats a nice pair of big SOLOs you've got there. 642 is very hard to find in Germany maybe because lots of them were exported to US?

I wouldn't mind finding a 642 by myself but until then I have to stick with my pair of 635 of which I apparently faild to present pictures when I had them out for snapshots.

The one in front I rebuilt from parts back in 2021. The rear one I bought in July last year together with my DOLMAR CA 113/1.
She still has all her patina left just like the state I bought her. Had to do some carb housekeeping, brushing the dust off and find her bar & chain in my stock.
Both are runnig fine and start surprisingly easy.
(Don't mind the snow, the pics were taken in January this year, I simply forgot to show them to you)

The big, old Solo models are beautiful saws.

Most look as though they have done a fair bit of work which is a testament to their utility.

It looks very good for being 60 years old, see the drive gear for the starter pawl, the handles don't even show any signs of hand wear. The only drawback so far is that 3 blades from the flywheel are broken off. Solo 50 The fuel lines are like those in a lawnmower or thicker The cylinder is not dirty from the outside

Single cylinder engines are never too well balanced anyway. I doubt you will notice the difference when the saw is running.

An interesting fact is the drive sprocket 404, the piston is fine, see the two white levers for adjusting the Tillotson carburetor

It was explained why it was low time, the ignition coil holder was torn off and the box under the carburetor was cracked, which is why there was one screw missing.

See the clutch page, 4 shoes cut, which I don't see often, the drum is on a ball bearing and its shaft has a needle bearing. I also measured the piston diameter and it is 44mm +-

I will check the gap and lubricate the felt / See where the problems with the flywheel and coil come from

As an exhibit that is only used occasionally, it doesn't really matter, but the flywheels are balanced by the manufacturer

The flywheels are balanced, yes. In actual operation the vibration from the single cylinder engine is so great that any minor imbalance from the flywheel is not really detectible.

The 694 is the Solo version of the Dolmar 9000/9010 (and Makita DCS-9000) and stock they are unimpressive. The saw I like most out of that line-up is the early Dolmar 9000, as it has an unlimited coil. I rebuilt several of the 9000/9010/694s years ago for a ranch owner that loves those saws.

Bit of a thread dig, do you know which years Dolmar 9000 had the unlimited coils? I've seen two people mention it online, where as everyone else says they are 11,500 till the 9010. I have a 9000 with a black oil built in 1992, I'll have a tach in a few weeks to check it.

9000 and 9010 were both limited I believe 9010 a little bit higher
