Do you know visually how you tell a standard Rex from a Super Rex? I am pretty sure they were 12ish H.P saws, not bad for their age and what we have today.

[QUOTE="Jon1212, post: 212602, member please, do tell.

Measuring the bore is the only sure fire way to know.[/QUOTE]:p
I was not sure myself thus asking the question. I thought a visual cylinder 'fin count' may be different to the normal Rex kinda like you can do with the Contras where the Contra 'Super' has longer external transfers that go higher up in the fins. Kool saws.

I've measured the bore at 58mm,as opposed to 54 on the regular rex.
super is 142cc,compared to 125 on the regular
its actually a lot lighter (or maybe it just feels that way)than an 090,and has a wicked exhaust note.
great saw to use.
Stroke must be long to get 142 cc on 58 mm bore

They are good saws they'll chew through most things that motor is square 54x54 my father has had 125's all his working life and as a kid I couldn't wait to use that saw but he said when your older boy you can it's too heavy
I can remember him dropping those big trees down by the river and walking up beside the fallen tree thinking how big they where and how long It took too walk up too the end
and one day he lost the oil cap from the solo he said if you find it you can have a go on the saw I tell you I was there the rest of that day until I found it I was so happy no money could make up for that moment I handed him that oil cap , I made sure he honoured his end of the deal though

I always think about that oil cap every time I go in the lock up and see the solos in the cupboard I've got three mk1 &mk2 and parts but no super Rex yet
I got one lined up when I can afford though

Your 125 might be a mk1 which I think is heavier than the mk2 Rex

It s got a great sound no restrictions in that exhaust , have you used it in wet weather without gloves. Zap it makes a wicked electric fencer

I've only had 25" and 29" hard nosed bars for the Rex and twins over here but a big Dolmar , stihl mount with adaptor should fit wellIMG_2704.JPG

Was the super rex made before, after or concurrently with the Rex?

Picked a Rex up to go with my other couple of solo's a month back. Will probable never run it much, time and money permitting would love to 'do it up' and stencil the bar with the farm name of the elderly gentleman who gave it to me.

Just want to say well done to skip sail, collectors like yourself help to keep this part of history off the scrap heap when someone passes on and the family doesn't know or care.
