OK, did as suggested and remeasured with solder close to edges of piston. 0.01" all around!

Any thoughts on loctite for the cylinder bolts? I'm hoping for a "no" so I don't have to go buy some.... :eusa_whistle:

Also, while I know proper torque is important, I'm using these t-handle wiha tools, and can't locate my damn torque wrench anyway. So my plan is just to be as even as possible on all 4 bolts wft (wicked f-in tight).

Other suggestions before I start putting this beast back together tomorrow?

Lock-tight… Personally Not a total essential . Torque wrench will be good and help protect a against thread stripping (unusual unless you go mad W F-ing tight !)
The fixings ..are they smooth bottomed or like some Stihl ones …serrated under the head? The Stihl ones will stay put well but all the alan socket fixings iv encountered stay put with a T top wrench and a gorilla on the end.

Using just a t handle, it would be difficult to over-tighten a cylinder bolt. I'd snug up all 4, and make 2 more passes around getting progressively tighter. Like Carl said tho, I'd search for a gasket that leaves at least .020" squish. And just a light coat of oil on the bolts

I use blue locktite on everything but a few husky muffler bolts. They get red.

OK, starting to put the puzzle back together. I know this is a crap pic, but I'm wondering about the throttle cable there. Just to the right of it is a black cylindrical piece with a slit in it. It doesn't seem like it, but am curious if that cable is somehow meant to go through that slit first, before connecting up top?

Yes the cable goes in the retainer dohicky.

FYI, those of you considering the 7900 spring kit for the 681.... Don't bother. Only one of them is a direct swap, the right front bottom one. Right rear is wrong size, as is the one for the wrap. As for the two on the clutch side, I see no way to remove the spring from the cap in order to get the old screw into the new spring.
Hint for the 7900 owners... clip the solo cylinder to handle spring shorter and run the threaded screw plate in a little further. Then the springs will be the same height. As you can see Solo specified a larger coil spring for that AV so it wont stretch as much as the thinner dolmar /makita 7900/7910/6400/6401. ;)
