I think part of this is people just need to realize occasionally your going to get ripped off. Is it really worth blowing stuff up over a chainsaw?
Just make sure the guys name gets put out there in a nice way and move on with your life.
Your right but it’s not the chainsaw or the parts it’s your hard earned money that you lost.

If I were spending a lot of money on a chainsaw purchase I would only pay via PayPal goods and services, at that way you have some protection. Thats worth the 3% fee in my opinion.

And yet people think we need to reinvent the wheel at ope for selling and buying.

I don't forgive people that rip me off, God can.

I got hosed on 1 internet transaction. I didn't let it go, and it saved a lot of other people from even more damage. I don't regret it one bit.

Well, I came home from a weekend trip just a couple of hours ago, and I’m trying to catch up a bit on what’s going on. I’ve made some phone calls, and sent some messages. We’ll see if that brings any clarity to it.
Nothing will undo or change anything that has happened. There’s no way to unring that bell.
What I’m hoping it will do is save and retain some of the forum’s dignity, so we can forge a new and positive future for all of us who enjoy this place.

As far as moderators helping with deals that have gone sideways: It’s all pretty basic; we don’t have any pull in any direction. There’s nothing we can physically do to help. What we’re left with is basic mediation between people.
We can’t read your private messages, so there’s no way to spy into anyone’s business.
It’s all he said she said, and very often a lot has transpired over a long period of time.
Friendships are tried and opinions are formed.

My biggest recommendation is to be careful, in any deal, with payments.
You’re basically on your own, and everyone needs to know that. Use payment methods that are safe and protected. If the seller doesn’t want to do that, pass on the deal.
I know that some of this is easier said than done, so take it for what it is.
Use the rating system for what’s worth. That’s the best, and only, system we have in place, and is meant to prevent some of these situations.
Buyer beware. Always.

With all this said, I’m happy to stay on and help in the best way I can, which is often limited time wise. I’m also accepting that if the forum members feel it’s time for me to step away, I’ll respect that.

I say we treat this OPE like any broken machinery. Repair, rebuild, or repower. Use the seller/buyer rating system it does help along with goods and services. @Woodpecker pick up some fuggin boards and nails and rebuild that bridge with JJ and the others and get settled back in here. You have shown non biased moderating skills in the past. If this site is going to recover you need to be a part of it.

Id like to see you stay on -- you help steer things in a positive direction.

JJ probably has all those construction materials in the pockets of today's cargo pants.
Should be easy.

Honest question, where do yall think I messed up? I waited 8 months with no resolution. No communication, and when there was it was lies and excuses. I’ve learned thru this thread and the other that admins and mods aren’t the same role. (Didn’t know that) I’m not on forums enough as a participant to know the ends and outs/ structure of the forum. I involved Randy bc he’s the builder and had known since Feb that a saw was inbound- once I found out it was disassembled/ tampered with. I would have thought the simplest move would be to ban the person so it didn’t happen to someone else. Some of us, loosing money or a saw is gonna piss us off, others it’s going to affect more severely financially. I simply wanted what I paid for so I could get the damn thing ported. I’ve waded thru the comments and I think some people are also upset about the price I put on the 2152. I priced it according to what a 346xp or Jonsered equivalent go for in that condition. Thats my right as the owner. Doesn’t make sense to demand someone sell something below market value or break even just bc. By that logic, when I sold my house last year that I had owned 25 years- I would have sold it for what I paid for it… instead of current market value. That doesn’t make sense. I’ve bought and sold a ton of saws, far more than most and this is the only time I’ve been burned on a deal…. Which honestly was a surprise bc I had many successful deals with the same person going back many years.

We have a rating system. It is not a fail safe. For example eBay has a type of feedback system and yet things happen there.
Maybe there should be a feedback system on OPE? Was a lot of people that wanted to know who the seller of the 346xp was. It might help in future sales? I have had nothing but good transactions from members here.

I really appreciate the vote of confidence. At this point after this consuming what feels like all of my free time for the better part of a week, I’m feeling more burnt out than that bridge! But hey tomorrow is a new day so we will see I guess. I think this thread has been a good first step though.

Click on your name or any name and you will see what’s called trader history. What more do you need?

Well, there is, but its not used much.

I'd like to see everybody leave feedback after a transaction, good or bad. Myself, I like to also leave a comment in the original for sale thread, to help everybody see what its like dealing with the seller.
